Desperately trying to avoid listening to this today. Got a solo trip from Cornwall to London on Sunday and aiming to listen to it then.
New record for getting to talking about Avi.
Lol. Go on, how long?
First couple of minutes iirc from earlier in the car.
I know! It took way too long, I’m gonna try and get Avi mentioned within the first 30 seconds next time
Finally had chance to watch the Mackey episode.
Great work. What a lovely human being.
Go listen if you haven’t already, lots of deep history and culture.
Had a 4 hour drive which turned into almost a 7 hour drive yesterday.
This kept me entertained.
The 97-99 stuff was great to learn about…
I’ll refrain from recounting the story but it is on here somewhere in the forums - The first time I ever saw a Skateboarder was at Southport in the snake run at Slippery Slopes slide park that Mackey mentions early on. Coolest thing I ever saw. I’m not sure if this is pre-BTTF but certainly before my little sister was born so earlier than 1986.
Back at work today so catching up on this now. That snippet about the tape with his footage being pulled off the reel for a photo in Sidewalk. Oof, that’s a killer.
43:52 - The Law Courts girder! Sessioned that a bit back in the day, would have been '92-93. Most of the Wirral skaters I skated with had quit by late 1993 so often I’d go alone. I left Merseyside in 1994. The undercover bit at the Law Courts in that clip saved a fair few trips to Liverpool and at the time my dad worked in an office overlooking the Law Courts too.
Had a good time back then, bought my first pro board (used) off Neil Danns. After he shut it was West Kirby Windsurfing, north west Wirral. Split did have a branch in Liverpool, not sure for how long though - it shut its doors maybe early 1990.
Split came and went in Liverpool while Off The Wall was open. Like, Neil’s shop was there, Granville opened, Granville closed, and Off The Wall was still open.
Yep, trying to put a date on Split, likely early ‘90. Winter into Spring. The reason being is I went with a couple of older lads from school and the plan was go to Split and OTW, but Split had closed to their surprise.
I can’t put a date on OTW, I remember going and sitting with Neil for a few hours on a Saturday as no one was around and he was saying he was probably going to shut. There was literally no footfall that day bar myself. Maybe late 91, I’m positive pre-BPSW, defo after his ramp had gone.
He was very gracious, me being a teenager with fuck all money to spend. Which was part of the problem!
@BAGHEADCREW you’re getting really strong with your interview techniques and overall production now, absolutely smashing the last few episodes!!
Thank you mate, that means a lot. I’ve been teaching myself the audio since producer Fraser left and it’s been daunting but so far it seems okay!
There’s still a bunch of times me and Toby get overly geeky and talk a lot but I think we’ve both stepped back a bunch to let the guest talk as much as possible. It’s all been a learning curve!
Got a solid bunch of guests lined up so far!
Andy Mac episode is up next.
Big up everyone
When I did the rollersnakes van graphics one time, I smoothed that out before cutting. I’m sure of it.
I’m not the only one then, this has been winding me up for years
