The amount of code I can fix incredibly quickly at work using it is wild.

Ai can make shit up and take strange liberties, with results, info, design and tasks. Do you think that there is a possibility that some of these tasks, fixes etc can be wrong or fudged by ai? We assume it’s all tickedy boo but is anyone actually checking every result? I do wonder if something big/disastrous could happen for companies because figures ended up being wrong and it’s snowballed into a big problem without anyone really noticing?

100%, quite often code fixes can be wrong, still need to test and tweak – nothing is verbatim there!

We are doing a big AI implementation at work, I think for stock figures and finance. Will let you know how wild the figures get haha.

I had an idea to do a toothbrushing app for my son. A 2 minute timer that reveals a flag each time. At the end it gives you the name of the country and the capital city (or cities).

I got claude to make it in like 5 minutes.

It seems to work. It’s a html file that opens on my browser. I’ll road test it with my son tomorrow to see if it actually stores the progress and generates a new flag each time.

Also earlier on, i got it to make a full PPC proposal artefact. My client can slide metrics around and see charts changing in real time. It looks absolutely fucking unbelievable. Hopefully I never have to make a Powerpoint ever again.

Just bang the number’s in and watch it work.

Just need it to not end humanity and I’ll be set.

I’m an AI dunce. I mostly hate everything about it and probably shouldn’t be in this thread but have to say that’s a great application of it. Maybe I’d have less fillings if that had existed in 1995.

I’ve made a few vibe coded apps. One I use daily is one you open and it tells you the cheapest time to set dishwasher/washing machine overnight. Washing machine you can set to 30 min increments. It takes a feed of national electricity prices and calculates cheapest start time depending on duration of the cycle.

Obvs it’s morning now so shows the next time to put it on. And cost is correct, electricity often goes into minus (they pay us!) when there’s oversupply

Started another one couple days ago. Wife was complaining we need a timetable to show daughter’s lessons, but more importantly checklists for when she needs to remember extra school activity stuff (so when she has swimming there’s goggles, towel, swimsuit, when there’s piano her music books etc). Only just started this but Opus 5.5 oneshotted it, really impressive. And of course it renders perfectly when printed so we can have it on the back of her door

I have one more - there’s a ferry service here to the big island, Saaremaa, and when ferry tickets sell out for a specific time (or when there’s a festival, on a specific day at all), you got to just sit there refreshing the site and hope you can buy one on time IF one comes up. So you select which (sold out) ferry time you want and subscribe and it polls the site every minute (the free version every 5 mins). When ticket(s) come available it can message you via email/sms/whatsapp/telegram with a link to buy the ticket straight away. Been trying to finesse the monetisation side of it, it’s been built for about a year but I just haven’t had the time to work on it or start promoting it

The possibilities are endless! Just had an idea of banging in a load of my online tesco receipts and making a weekly meal planner to output next weeks shopping.

How do i go from downloading the .html file it gave me to being an actual working app?

I guess what makes an app an ‘app’ and how do you host an app i guess. Does it cost money somewhere?

I don"t want to make one for other people, just for me on my phone.

Get yourself signed up for vercel and tell llm that you want to publish there. It will give you instructions re API etc. Password protect if you need to. Again, ask llm. Also in your spec ask for it to be an installable web app and then you can get notifications etc, a bit like the way you can install uksf as web app on mobile, notifications come via browser.

All mine except for ferry is hosted at vercel, it’s so easy, piece of piss.

One thing I did is create an agent which acts as a security analyst. Then run it against the AI generated code….and finds yer holes 😉

Two I’ve done and left in limbo is a listing generator - I open the app, take a bunch of photos and it creates the eBay/Vinted listing I can copy and paste. What I wanted was an automatic lister but eBay the problem area. Basically list things without typing anything. I got it down to around 30s per item with high accuracy using the app. The kids really enjoyed it - taking photos of stuff and seeing what it said 😄

Also did one for my caravan - basically take photos of all the things we have in the caravan and it gives an estimated weight total which subtracts from the payload taken from the weight plate. The MVP was doing this manually, but the second stage was to basically take a photo of a locker and AI identifies and estimates the weight of all items in the locker - stuff like gas canisters, the cutlery, equipment etc. It also has an incident recorder - so if you have an accident you can log it, make voice notes, add photos etc. All of which can be exported to pdf for insurance/info. I just found it too much hard work to use 😄

It did a good job of researching colour schemes and UX design, producing design documents and I had a good iterative process in place, however I got to the point where to fine tune and make further adjustments I wanted became very hard. I found taking screenshots and annotating them helped. Also they all have a ‘look’ regardless of how much you try and prompt against it.

Yeah the UIs they produce are workmanlike at best although in some ways a bit like what I’ve found some human developers will produce given only a list of requirements but no design input. Technically all the functions are there but it’s unintuitive.
