It feels like this is exactly what happened hitting November last year? Boris saying everything was fine and Christmas will be one big party… cut to December and people sat having Christmas for one in lockdown. ---

I think it’s still legal in Wales and most people do wear them. It’s not enforced or anything though. It’s pathetic that this has been turned into an issue. Railed against hardest by absolute fucking babies who call everyone else snowflakes. ---

I’ve heard from a reliable source that the attitude now inside the govt is basically, let it rip and if you die it’s your fault for not getting jabbed/boostered and ignoring the mask etc optional advice we’ve given you. The herd immunity idea they tried first time but this time vaccines in the mix. They’ve got no appetite at all to do any more damage to the economy. It will have to be bodies piling up in the streets before they’ll go back to any kind of proper restrictions. ---

I think all these ‘fun’/frivolous public health campaigns are a bit of a waste of money and don’t really convey the gravity of the situation. I was ten when that ran and I was constantly terrified I was going to catch AIDS, despite not injecting drugs or practising unprotected anal sex. Certainly did the trick for a while. ---

I remember a lot about the dangers of abandoned mine shafts, as well as sniffing glue. The one that really stuck with me, but probably cos it was much less dramatic, was that firefly who burnt his house down because he was playing with matches ---

There were some truly harrowing 1970’s child safety ones. I doubt many of you will be old enough to remember the one where there is a class of school kids that gradually gets smaller as, one by one, the kids die in horrific accidents. It’s drummed in by the teacher removing yet another kid’s name tag from their coat and bag peg each morning. It featured kids getting crushed by tractors/ploughs, drowning in slurry pits getting trampled by livestock…all good stuff. The one that really sticks with me was the ‘stay away from canals’ thing that they ran for a bit in the early 70’s. I remember a couple of kids going for an ill advised dip in a canal and only one of them coming out. He was wearing some sort of home made (woollen?) swimming costume, (yeah, fuck knows 😂), that was red. When he got out and his friend didn’t he was just screaming on the canal path with red dye all over him kind of like the end scene from Carrie. That shit definitely made it’s point harder than the Tufty Club - but even that did the job. It’s taken a while but I’m finally over Billy Badger chasing his ball into the road without looking and then getting twatted by a speeding Hillman Imp.
