Covid

i need to rant (again)

so one of our close friends had their daughter sent home yesterday for covid symptoms. she was cold in the playground and told the teacher who felt her head (i’m assuming with a cold hand). the teacher thought she had a temperature so she was isolated and the parents were called. that was it. that was all it took for them to send the kid home and demand a test

the parents being of basic intelligence took the kids temperature at home and she was fine so they’ve refused the test, argued with school and got her back in today

WHY THE FUCK ARE SCHOOLS NOT USING THERMOMETERS

apparently its not in their guidance. if i was king, every school/resturant/supermarket/anywhere would have those laser thermometers and you’d have to pass a basic temperature test to get in. it’s basic common sense. what the actual fuck is this bullshit. fuck

Be patient with schools. Teachers are being put in a crazy position - they are not health professionals and they are scared. They have to be cautious in this situation. Also they probably don’t have any budget for thermometers.

Yeah I feel so bad for the schools/teachers.

They have absolutely no control over this and they’ve been thrust into the whole thing completely against their wishes, and demonised by the Daily Mail and other tabloids.

I’m sure there’s more to it than what was stated above, I doubt that the teacher would have said anything if they weren’t genuinely concerned, and they do have to be overly cautious. Damned if you do and damned if you don’t I guess. Better for a kid to be sent home just in case, even if not sick, than to run any risks.

i don’t blame the schools, i blame the guidance

But you can say ‘We’re worried about your daughter’s health, go get her tested or see how her symptoms develop.’ The school overreacted but isn’t that what they have to do, unfortunately? Yes, that means isolating until it’s worked out and it’ll affect the family but that’s what we have to do to get through this. We have to be prepared to drop things and isolate.

I got hit by Stu Graham at the bottom of the smaller roll in at the old Plymouth indoor park.

I’m still not sure I actually survived.

Well yeah, I don’t know the impact it has, I don’t have kids. Just voicing my sympathy for teachers I guess. I imagine if I was one I’d be super cautious too…

Agree the guidance has been terrible, and they’re doesn’t seem to be any sort of framework to it. IMO the individual teachers need to be free to use their best judgement regardless of the impact downstream. But there should be policy/frameworks in place to triage/mitigate.

But like I said, I’m probably a bit naive about this as I literally haven’t been impacted by any of this aside from obvious aspects. Wasn’t my intention to minimise anything.

Our school sent out a text saying naturally the kids will get colds etc, and just check temps etc. On Friday my daughter came back bit of a runny nose etc, we checked her temp each day and it was fine and she’s been to school no questions asked. Each school is different same with restaurants and bars etc it’s down to how they manage it and just have to roll with it.

Whoops!

Genius

yeah that’s dead. central london is normally fucking heaving

Oh ok, I stand corrected! I suppose it can never be truly as busy as normal with the lack of tourists.

Is it busier than since this all started, though?

That’s how I’m feeling, I think so many of us had thought/hoped it was all very gradually winding down and that by the end of the year/start of next things could slowly get moving again even if it will never be the same but this battle feels very far from over now.

The hospitality businesses that haven’t opened back up won’t open, and they know it. Just doing the decent thing and keeping staff furloughed until the end of October. That’s why I quit my job a couple of months ago.

Fully lost it today with the COVID conspiracy brigade. Had the local dickhead in the pub last night argue with my dad that he doesn’t have to wear a mask if he doesn’t want to and then pulled out the “mental health card” when he realised he hadn’t got a leg to stand on. Made me doubly angry seeing someone use something that is real and proper as an excuse not to protect others about something that is real and proper (that he doesn’t believe in). Fully grown man crying about wearing a mask for 5 seconds from the entrance of the boozer to the table he sits at, fucking mental. On another note he voted for the tories, voted for brexit, clapped for Boris, claimed COVID was caused by 5G and now wont track and trace as “they’ll have my details”. Also checks in to any place he goes including his home on Facebook. Give me strength. (Rant over, needed to vent)

Those people make me livid.
One of the main arguments I see from anti maskers is that they are ‘concerned about the long term mental health on people, after having to wear a mask’
Which is such obvious bollocks, as I don’t for a second believe they care about anyones mental health the rest of the time. Like you said, it’s just a transparent excuse.
