It’s part of my permanent residency in Australia. Every 5 years you need to renew a portion of it to be able to travel. Only found out about it 6 years ago trying to return from a trip to New Zealand and being detained at the airport and given a quick lesson in “you owe us some money if you wanna sleep in your own bed tonight”. So it’s not just for this trip, but it wasn’t factored in my trip budget that’s for sure.
Bloody hell. That’s pretty brutal.
Also, if you do make it over, I’ll demand you do at least one front crook.

I always find myself skating from one end of the carpark to the other, dodging people then giving up just before I hit the curb. Then chatting.
