I know my trucks are too loose when I feel like I’m having to balance on my kingpin haha

I like medium turny, enough to try and get out of trouble! Didn’t quite help at the Voltarol, had a 4-way pile up at one point 😄

Most people probably think my trucks are pretty tight but then again I’m much bigger than them and therefore weigh much more. Whatever, each to their own. Let’s have fun.

Oh yeah I had a load of bones bushings blow out over the past god knows how many years. I emailed them to claim on warranty and I had to send a pic of them with address etc (I had 1 set in an old board somewhere and another on current deck) so I sent pics of those and they sent me replacements (3 sets in total) from the US.

OK so they’ll blow out as well but that’s fine as I only skate like 3 times a month anyway

So Lurpiv trucks are coming back, apparently.
I think the problem they had last time was they never really explained why you’d want them.
When Ace came out it was all about being loose and responsive (‘Loose trucks save lives’). When Slappy entered the market they promised deeper turns with less wheelbite and more grind clearance.
Lurpiv are in the responsive camp like Ace and Slappy. I’m still not sure what their point of difference is, apart from the weird name. Which sort of says Scandinavian, if you know that a Lur was an ancient Scandi trumpet. There’s a picture of one (two, in fact) on the pack of Lurpak butter.

I feel like it needs a diagonal.

Most likely strong enough. But I just like a truck like that.

Just got my ollies back at not a bad height for a 50yr old who has been away from skating for 30+yrs. This was on my heroin razor egg 9.5 with slappy 9.5 trucks and 56mm dragons and 1/4 risers. A pretty heavy beast more for skating curbs.
I’m after getting another setup to try and get higher ollies and try some flip tricks.
So after some advice. Deck I hate small so was thinking 8.75-9 popsicle or egg?
Does wheelbase matter? Nose and tail lengths & steepness matter?
Trucks low, mid or high? Also brand/model again does it matter if they change wheelbase?
Wheels pretty much love dragons but which size?
I know Professor Schmitt goes into stuff like this but I got totally lost.
And I know I’m overthinking things but just after something that would potentially help me achieve my goals

If you’ve been off for 20 years a lot will have changed. Boards went from wide to sub-8” but they’ve got a bit wider again and a lot of skaters seem to have settled on around 8.25” - 8.38” and wheels around 54mm.
If you’re into flip tricks, 9”-plus boards are going to be harder to flip,
Slappys are good trucks but they’re on the turny/responsive side, like Ace. You shouldn’t need risers unless you have 60mm-plus wheels,
My personal recommendation would be a regular 8.38” popsicle with maybe a 14.25” wheelbase, Slappy 8.5s with no risers or a 1/16” shock pad, 54mm wheels. Others might have different suggestions.

Cheers
I can’t go below 8.5 as I’ve tried a few peoples and hate them
8.5 would be pushing my limits.

I think I’m probably older than you but I’ve been skating without a break since I was about 10. I’ve seen a lot of older skaters starting up again over the years. Sometimes they stick with it and sometimes they don’t. But almost always they get wide boards with risers and big wheels. They do this for two reasons: (1) it’s what they used to ride last time round and (2) after a break of many years they’re looking for stability and they think a big board will give them that.
I’d say look forward rather than backwards, and accept that you’re going to find balance and control difficult to start with. But look at what most skaters are riding today- there’s a reason the current sizes and shapes are so popular: they just work. Go with a modern board and gradually rebuild your skills.

That’s what we thought when we were riding 7.5s.

Trends are part of skateboarding.

Everybody sized up during the last 15 years and everybody is gonna size down again soon.

It happens with boards, it happens with trousers, it’s happened before and it’s gonna happen again. Cycles.

Point taken Franc - I think you’re right there. But also I think despite the fashions boards and equipment have progressed. The stuff people were riding in the 80s with weird shapes and no noses just isn’t as functional as modern gear

A sizing down trend would be great for business at skate shops! There are thousands of 8-8.5" decks out there unsold at distributors, make them all redundant at a stroke and bring back 7.5"s! Skate industry saved!

Wonder if they do 51mm. I keep them so fucking long they probably spend longer at that size anyway 😂
