In the news thread

I think it’s quite clear by now but there are always people who feel the need to find a way around things.
Probably makes them feel clever or something.
Sat on front doorstep and watched someone come out from the shop across the road with their all essential regular sized bottle of lucozade.

WTF?

Maybe this is one for the mental health thread, but…

I live in the sticks and there are minimal people about so it’s not hard to exercise and practice social distancing but when I leave the house I have this weird feeling that ‘something’ is hiding in the bushes waiting…

SO glad I never got heavily into the doobage and that I didn’t watch The Silence on Netflix.

As I say, there’s always some smart arse who wants to work a loophole, Ashley strikes me as a typical example of this.

Oh on policy yeah at least he’s a democrat but he’s useless, can’t speak properly and seems to anger people wherever he goes

The US culture of individualism needs addressing. They’re bred to be selfish. The idea that some of your tax money would go to help other Americans is completely alien

One thing I’ve heard this morning is that companies are applying to classified as a key resource, it’s going to be interesting to see how this goes!

Perhaps I should’ve clarified. I said Biden is as bad as Trump, I meant their character. Trump doesn’t believe any of his policies anyway, he’s cheerfully said in the past that he’d have run for either party

Trump actually was a card carrying Dem at one point wasn’t he?

What? He can’t talk for shit, his speeches are just as rambling and confused as Trumps. Both of them are/will be terrible leaders

Sadiq Khan argued at COBRA that construction workers should not be going to work, but was over-ruled by Boris Johnson

Well he’s about to look silly again over that:

I think Boris has been clear as possible with what people should do given his timeframes. Basically the country is on pause unless you are a key worker. If you can work at home then do it otherwise go on pause and claim your pay to tide you over. I never thought i’d say this but I think the government is going to look after everyone, they can’t not do, it would finish them as a party if so. Boris could come out a Churchill style hero after this, people forget that Churchill was a complete bellend too, they only remember that he got us through the war.
I’m optimistic in that this could be the big wake up call the toffs need to realise the actual value of normal people and they might start thinking about their jobs differently. The gravy train is maybe going to slow and new ideas emerge on how to proceed after this. Obviously it’s not a good thing this situ is happening but it could serve as a huge kick up the arse.
So yeah, work, don’t work, do whatever you feel is right but stay away out of contact from others. Seems simple.
Thing is, I could stay at work as I can be isolated in the office but all our clients etc are all not working so what work is there to do? There will be new news for self employed people without premises as they sort of were not covered in the previous list of options so they will be essentially able to become pseudo furlough workers for their own business and get 80% of their earnings based on an average of their last 3 years earnings. I’m sure that will all come out in proper detail though.

EDIT: of course there are newer instances above that I didn’t account for haha, some things need to be clarified with certain types of business. I think they are trying not to be forcefull and let people use their common sense but people always think their situation is unique. They promise that everyone will get paid, the fine details just need ironing out.
I’m usually pessimistic and one of the first to call bullshit on promises but I really don’t think this is the time to be tinfoil and just let you be taken care of.

Not a chance! Flip flopping about travel restriction, basic testing, even entertaining the idea of herd immunity and then the Lord Farquard-like speech saying that many will die. He’s been rightly vilified at home and abroad for putting forward myopic, ineffective and downright selfish policies and guidelines.

I agree pre Friday speech, I’m just hoping the pennies are slowly dropping in his brain as he’s going. I could be wrong of course but i’m hopefull. I don’t think it’s healthy to be trying to use previous preconceptions against them right now, that way you’ll be on a constant downer. There are going to be glaring holes in these ideas to sort it out but they’ll quickly be spotted and dealt with.
I know I read like I have hit my head and yeah, I agree it’s madness to expect it to be anything but a shitshow as normal but I really don’t think they can afford to let it go down like that.

I feel its still pretty vague.

All retail should close, online fine?? That puts a lot of people in the still working category. Still travelling, still creating movement.

I’m hoping the access to the 10k grants are easy to unlock. If thats the case I’ll essentially pause the business for a month. Happy days

Exactly what they hope people to do. Pause and get paid and your business will be there at the end.

My cousin is a doctor in ICU and he just texted me saying he’s putting a (previously) perfectly fit and healthy 28 year old on a ventilator.

Make sure you’re staying safe everyone.

Maybe I should tell that to the fatties I just saw walking up my road carrying a multipack of crisps each.

Essential supplies obviously.

Tell him he should save those for sick people. Sorry.
