In the news thread

I dunno if I really buy into that narrative you know @ciaran I’d say that the common factor here is class rather than anything else. Patel, Braverman, Badenoch etc are all from the ‘ruling class’ for want of a better term - all educated privately (edit - this isn’t accurate, at least not in Patel’s case) all groomed for leadership, all full of entitlement. Their disdain for the poor/working classes has more to do with that than any perceived racial component I think. They are grifters whose privilege is sustained by the status quo. They’re just as likely to castigate ‘benefit scroungers’ as they are ‘illegal migrants’ - it’s all the same to them.

Just as soon as the current mask no longer serves their careers.

This is kinda what I feel is happening. It’s still crazy though how such a disconnection can form so quickly and there are zero feelings for historic plight.

Yep. Unfortunately politicians see politics as a career, ladder, a way to align themselves with certain types to further themselves in a race to 6 figure director incomes and personal portfolio rather than a way to improve and better run the country as a whole for everyone

Great news! Bravo

Just today alone I’ve had AI apologise for going AGAINST my own agent guidelines and running commands against a development AWS account without asking me first. Fuck you claude.

Claude is Skynet I swear. Couple of accounts I trust on LinkedIn have posted bits of it trying to plant code.

Can someone explain the last two comments like I’m 5? I think I know what’s going on, but want to be sure. Cheers!

Mistakenly watched a video last night on how AI could be our downfall, had to turn off after 10 minutes, the buildup to it was enough, AI learning how to survive against other AI tells me that we need to take the keys off the nutters in control of all of this

I’m still hanging onto the idea that this is all hype, they’ll never make their massive debts back and the whole thing crashes into the sea.

Ai “going rogue” is lapped up by all the news outlets but noone is really questioning the sources or the study

“If there’s a failure here, it isn’t that the AI wanted to hack something. It’s that humans created a test where success was measured by achieving an objective, deliberately relaxed some of the normal security controls to measure the system’s capabilities, and underestimated how effective the model would be at finding an unexpected path to success. In many ways, it did exactly what it had been told to do"

Still if its put in charge of the wrong shit by the wrong people it could still cause all kinds of shit I’m sure

There’s also the issue that if ai writes your code you don’t know what the structure is and it’s harder or impossible to amend efficiently

People that do this stuff, is that right?

If humans regularly hallucinated at work they’d get fired.

It depends.

If it’s an existing codebase, you can be very prescriptive about how the AI agent writes code so that it matches existing patterns etc. that way, even if you don’t look too closely at the code, you at least know where it is, what goes in, what comes out etc.

Using it on a new project… it can get a bit crazy trying to reason about it. But it depends on how you specify what you want built. If you give it a plan and have plenty of check points, you can guide it a bit more. But if you’re chasing 10x productivity like my work is, that can quickly fall by the wayside.

I’m currently working on a service/codebase that can build itself, so it’s quickly become a black box. Its goal is to create a service for working on other codebases, but we’ve gotten to that point by having it work on itself and file its own self improvement plans. At one point, for a short window whilst it built itself, it was creating 100x the code of the rest of the company (a publicly traded company that’s not small by any measure).

Isn’t it also true that volume of cofe is not the best metric? Ie the best code is efficient and “elegant” ?

This is fucked up. I was skating earlier (cmoac) and having a chat about injuries etc as usual. I said something like “I’m just glad I can skate at all, even if it’s just rolling around”. I must have pressed the Gemini button cos ai just started talking on my headphones saying “that’s a really good attitude, many older skaters..”. etc trying to give me life, advice. Fucksake
