Instagram Blowouts

That kid needs to blow up soon he’s got the potential to be the best in UK.

i’m going to be really lazy and do absolute no research here whatsoever but does he ever get out in the streets?

Question not related specifically to that lad, but how does someone blow up these days in the UK.

Ten years ago, it was still the shop sponsor/local board sponsor > UK comps > photos in sidewalk > get a check out > get a few hook ups > interview > bigger offer route pretty much.

With a sidewalk shaped hole and nothing bridging the gap between various local scenes In the UK, how does a very good 17 year old make the jump out of a local scene onto a larger stage in 2020?

Edit. Didn’t mean to direct this question just to you Naz…

nah i get you

who do you feel are the biggest UK skaters right now? Charlie Munro is on Primitive which gives him a big profile. who knows. tom knox?

i think we’re really missing a company like Blueprint to get the UK names out there. Isle, National etc. just aren’t as big

is a big instagram following enough to get you sponsored nowdays?

Yeah probably Tom. But he had the Blueprint/post-BP jump off.

There’s probably been a few dudes since who’ve made it out to the USA/onto legit sponsors - Munro, that dude on Real etc. But not many.

It is almost like the lack of big UK/Europe board company is hindering people making that next step. Palace doesn’t really count because they’re not just sponsoring any old person, and then Isle are probably the UKs most legit/flagship board brand but again they’re probably in a different place to a mid-00’s BP/Cliche and have kept their team small.

There’s no place currently for a Rattray type success story to happen

Knox most well known but Munro all the way, such a casual ripper and sound as fuck.

Who was Ben’s (RIP) UK board sponsor before Enjoi? I forget

Harry Lintell. Seemed to come out of nowhere or I really wasn’t following it unfolding all along?

I wasn’t really aware of things at that time, what caused blueprint to be so massive when companies like Isle just aren’t reaching those heights? Can’t just be the lack of sidewalk surfer surely

I guess BP hit just at the right time post Flip in America for people to take interest in UK skateboarding - they also had the best riders coming out of the UK at the time, better videos production wise and that perfect timing with the rise of Cliche as well.

Guess things are more settled now. Plus that weird situation of skateboarding being bigger than ever yet margins and industry are shrinking

That penny clip from the other day was hilarious in the comments because it’s quite clear that a fair few Americans think he is American

I would love to skate that Lewes park

Wow that switch heel

Holy cow that Tommy Fynn line is nuts.

The UK thing is weird isn’t it? Chewy? Everyone else seems kinda niche rather than what you’d call a big name. Kyle Wilson seems to be going places.

Who was the last person to go and have a proper US career? Benny Fairfax?

What do you mean by last person? Olly Todd and Benny were on Stereo at the same time. Todd just before iirc? Ben Raemers (RIP), he had pro boards and video parts. Kyron Davis and Harry Lintell are fully on US teams.
