Is skateboarding at its zenith? Is it thanks to ledge curation?

Quote the comment you are questioning please.

Thought it was pretty obvious but ok:

Hopefully I misconstrued this exchange:

Sorry to hijack an interesting thread, maybe I’ve missed something but in context it sounds judgy as fuck and wanted calling out.

Granted I just assumed at least one persons gender I’ll own that

For my comment, I mearly pointed out that people in general can hold opinions or do things that your personally don’t agree with but also be sound as fuck, lovely or a good person in many ways. People can be weird and complex. I know very little about Stef but what she’s been up to in previous years has been discussed on here at length and opinions been made based on that.

Do I agree with how she mixes her content and skateboarding aimed at younger girls? Nope. I promise you have zero chance at changing my mind on that front too.

Isn’t a lot of her content aimed at horny men? Eg. The glamour model style Salon boards.

She talks about female empowerment and encouraging women to skate in interviews, but I think much of her algorithm-friendly antics are geared towards a male gaze. Which is essentially my truck with her. She seems clever and articulate, especially for a skater, but she is trapped in a social media world which is about generating views, cheap content and getting ‘the bag’. Eg. When she visited Saudi Arabia to give lessons to, presumably, very rich people’s children.

Remember in the 90s when Madonna published a big expensive photobook full of pics of her smoking cigs with her vag out while Vanilla Ice looked moody in the background, and loads of sections of the media called it a triumph for feminism? I don’t get it

It depends on the media and what sex the tastemakers are. If male then they are tellking women to feel proud just so they can get a legit mucky book “how are we getting away with this?”. If women then some women genuinely feel it’s progression.

I don’t understand it all obviously because i’m male but I get that it can feel liberating for women that want to be extravert and do exactly what they want with no shit from men but there will be women that feel the opposite and that it’s counter intuitive to progression for women.

There will always be opposing arguments for everything, there is no such things as male or female opinions.

All I said was she was sound when I spent time with her
