JAEB | DEBUT

I shall check back later and let you know!

I might be over thinking it (and this is the place to do it), but on rewatch some of the tricks really made me think of them being possible homages to other skaters?

The fs heel over the bar being obvious other Dylan. Fakie double flip manny felt like Daewon in Skate More. Long fs blunt on the ledge was very MJ in Yeah Right…

Maybe all the good tricks have already been done?

Fun unrelated fact: This is the reason why Cherry is in black and white

ā€˜Funrelated’ fact?

New portmanteau word just dropped

I mean, yeah it’s probably that simple.

Not that deep bro

Knew it was going to be a decent edit when the manual revert screech timed with the chopped vocal.

I think the trouble with Dylan like a few others is that we see top tier stuff from him smattered around the internet over time so when a part comes out we expect an even higher level that what we have seen because people would naturally do better for a project than a random clip etc. We probably feel slightly underwhelmed because we’ve already seen clips that are peak ability.

Regardless, it’s all incredible.

I did check @Garlicnaan and I can honestly say that was one of the best things I’ve seen in a while. Instant rewatch.

I think you’re right re homages @BvS. The switch polejam and fakie heel were very Jake Johnson esque.

I did think of M Johnson on the front blunt.

Tribute tangent here, but has anyone noticed that re-using music from parts seems to have become accepted recently? Are people doing it as a tribute or hoping no one notices? That Nike Af1 vid had the jungle tune from the Palace vid. I thought that was a bit much if it isn’t some kind of tribute. Am I missing something?

Probably not a tribute thing. I just think because the amount of parts that get put out now is so much bigger that it was 10/20 years ago it’s much more likely people will end up reusing songs by accident. Some random ones have come up lately.

Right. I can’t quite remember what but there’s been a few recently. That Nike one stood out as more obvious than most though. Also kinda think only UK companies can use Jungle properly lol. Maybe I’ll let the Japanese off.

Some of it started out as tribute, going back to P-Rod using the Jackson 5 because of Guy but I now think it’s open season on anything being reused without a care. It’s a new world where the past is not really known about like it was.
Some kid watching Johnny New Pro’s part does not care that some old pro called Matt Hensley had the song on a video 30 years ago.

Some of them are really random. Like someone recently used a song Mike Frasier skated to in the Element video. It was a shit song choice the first time round…

Felt like a changing of the guard to me. Jake and Tyler don’t feel so present so Dylan is taking their tricks and carrying forward.

I know people change up their style/direction but it does feel a little bit forced upon him to go this way somehow rather than natural

Maybe not forced but yeah, something doesn’t sit right

I agree with you, I’ve always found it jarring when people seem to change their whole wardrobe and look overnight. Luckily it’s usually people I’m not that invested in like Chris Cole.

I mean, he’s only 22. Everyone goes through gear changes as they mature. He wasn’t going to stay a skatepark grom forever.

Tbf all he’s really done is shave his head, switched the DCs for Nikes and put a plain tee on

He got taller and ganglier. You can’t tell me that’s not contrived.
