What is this one, couldn’t work it out
It’s a frontside anti bigspin heel. #badumtss
Basically a frontside Lotti spin with a heelflip, or a frontside heelflip with an extra frontside body varial. Does that make sense now?
Yes Lotti Spin thank you
I saw a thing about how crazy the amount of combinations of a shuffled deck of cards is, which makes me wonder if you took all the tricks he’s done and broke them down into their constituent parts (regular, switch, fakie, nollie, kickflip, heelflip, frontside, backside etc etc etc)…
- How many of the possible trick combinations will he have done by the end of the 1000… what actual percentage does he cover of the available tricks… You’d need to set some limits (eg, no late 900 shuvs…), but would be interesting.
- Are any of the tricks essentially the same?
@Les_Zeppelin is usually good for working this kind of stuff out.
I saw the thing about shufling a deck of cards as well. Something about taking one step, then waiting a billion years, then taking another step, then when you made it round the world, you take a drop of water from the world’s oceans. Then after you finished emptying the oceans you lay a piece of paper down, and when it reaches the sun, you’re still only 2/3 way through combinations, or something?
Yeah this: https://www.reddit.com/r/theydidthemath/comments/1r4fg3a/request_the_maths_behind_52/
That explained it really well. That is absolutely mental
If you want to feel unique go shuffle a deck of cards ![]()
I’ve given this a go because I thought it would be interesting to find this out.
So it turns out it’s a lot harder to work this out than you might think.
I’ve tried coming out with a psuedo-mathematical way of describing every trick.
I’ve tried doing an upper bound (I am not a mathematician) if you had a mega jump box with moon gravity.
If you push cardinal movements (up down left right etc) to the absolute limits and say stuff like 540 triple flip late backfoot double heelflip reverts are possible, you could get a lot of tricks. I think it’s around 684k:
There is definitely a finite skateboarding version of 52 factorial. It’s going to be something like this but getting to that number will be really hard because we are messy humans and not a nice countable pack of cards.
For example, I can’t get an exact number because again I’m not a mathematician and can’t figure out how to take literally impossible states out of the equation.
If you don’t do any ‘modifier’, none of the branches after that are possible. I can’t quite figure out how to take that into account - I’ve tried but not sure how close I am to succeeding.
If you take it down to only allowing popped tricks, double flip max - I think you can get to around 700 base tricks (again maths might be wrong and many of which would still be basically impossible (also impossibles actually make this very, very difficult to do because they don’t really mix with other movement)).
A lot of these again though would probably still be physically impossible - This is just multiplying every unique ‘state’ you can get in with your board.
Getting to a 1,000 in the real world is going to be a serious challenge but the modifiers (underflips, late flips, late shoves etc) do greatly explode the possibilities, fast.
To explain how this works, this would describe a Switch back heel:
So you travel fakie, you pop off the tail, your body spins backside 180 degrees, the board spins backside 180 degrees and it spins once on the toe side of the board.
This would be a cab flip
You travel fakie, you pop off the nose, you and your board turn backside 360 degrees, your board spins once on the heel edge
This would be a switch no comply frontside 540 backside 540 shove it triple flip to late frontside 360 double underflip backside revert
Work that one out
I may have missed something super obvious in the way a person & board moves and my maths is definitely wrong. You get the idea though and I’m sure someone can make the maths work.
I’m sure there would be a way of weedling down a list of humanely possible tricks too.
You legend! Will read this properly on a desktop tomorrow! Haha
Flexed on us with the ender ender.
Kinda funny that the ‘easiest’ tricks here; front 360 kickflip, nollie backside 360 kickflip and nollie front 360 heel are the ones he didn’t go back and clean up till he did them perfectly level and bolts, but a crazy anti cancel featherfuck thing will get 3 or 4 do overs.
Not that it matters, he is god
He’s the final boss of autism
Some of those late shove variations look surprisingly good.
This said, late shove-its are a guilty pleasure of mine.
Was getting a bit reverty towards the end there.
Mental though
He deserves his own stickers the lad
I can imagine something along the lines of “I was there when Jamie Griffin landed 1000 tricks” or a knock off NWA cover “1000 tricks and runnin’” or proclaimers “But I would land five hundred tricks,
And I would land five hundred more,
Just to be the man who landed a thousand
Tricks to fall down on the floor”
That was always me and Zip at Ideals way of proclaiming someone is deserving of professional skateboarder status
Likely I’ve wanted to know this since I first saw
Zippys name in print so probably around the chips, lips and 360 flips advert for me as a young yoot ![]()
Is he named after Zippy in Rainbow?
He’s done it! Blasted loads of those out in the wet too. Whats next for the lad?
Not even sure you know. Or I’ve forgotten, will ask
