New skateparks and plazas

Wonder if it’ll be fixed into the trough at the top of the bank? That’ll fix it :flexed_biceps:

Kind of looks like they may be moving it towards the edge - there’s a section of the bank that’s been dug up where the lip would be, roughly same width as the distance as between the bench legs…

Looks like that to me, it may get moved

Don’t know about the surface, it does look rough, there was talk of some kind of sealant or something going on top, I will try to find out

Looking forward to hitting those banks! Might have to invest in some big softies

I still prefer the Maverick one that Les shared the other day. It has something for everyone. There’s a big street area with banks and blocks. There’s a miniramp for the transition skaters. And there’s also a sort of pump track thing for whoever goes in for that sort of thing.

Surely you can see that this is not a usual skatepark build?

There’s a world of difference in budgets between the two.

This is clearly a case of we have not much £££, but some existing space you can use… what can you deliver for the average skateboarder?

It’s like saying I prefer a weekly shop to spending a couple of quid at the off licence.

I think it looks great. Could cruise around doing pop shuvs, sunbathe when the sun is out, do some flat bank tricks whilst trying not to roll my left ankle again. Some manuals on the blocks and epically fail trying to skate like Gino and Guy on the bank to bench :face_with_peeking_eye::laughing:

Councils without much money could really do with taking inspiration from the kind of park that Alexis Sablone designed. Or the Ryan Lay minimalist park.

I tried to design a few ideas like this years ago. I love shapes that can be interpreted however people want but also serve as a staple in a basic way. However you do get skaters, even really good skaters just wanting the most basic generic setups based on the quarter-driveway-bank with a rail, hubba and ledge. Which is fair enough and I appreciate that not everyone has the imagination for a different spot and would be lost on it until someone unlocks the ideas.

Oh well.

Giving me massive nostalgia for the old South Shields park banks. That weren’t easy to skate at all.

Bit of paulo diaz to that nollie noseslide at 1:47

Those banks felt like they had the ‘transition’ going the wrong way, if that makes sense. Like skating on a protractor lol

Yeah a few them bowed out instead of being flat, that’s proabably why Urwin is sticking to one of the ones that was half decent in those clips.

Here is an old photo I took, that I have at hand weirdly, from the later part of the 90s.

It isn’t brand new and it’s not even in the UK but this park in Verona might be the best one I’ve ever been to. Maybe the park in Bordeaux can rival it but I think this one is probably more fun. Sunk into the ground, lights until 11pm and all obstacles spaced out perfectly. Visit if you can.

Super inspiring design for a place near me.

Free standing curb at least

I could have fun there on a weekday when there are no gimps scooting about.

That looks good. Mavericks are making the new Droitwich skatepark but sadly it’s not half as low impact as that and is too crammed together which is a shame. It opens on 8th.
