SOTY 2024

Does this feel like the first ever year where no-one has seemingly proactively gone after it?

I think we’re seeing the same sort of pattern as we have done in the last few years. Foy and Dylan Jaeb have dropped parts throughout the year to wet people’s appetite for the NB video, Tiago put out that Oslo part a few weeks ago. Sponsors, filmers, Thrasher etc. are clearly coordinating this.

I feel like last year was a bit of an outlier as Miles came from seemingly nowhere (bar that Thrasher cover) to win it.

It certainly feels like the year that people care the least. Post-Phelps it seemed to matter a lot less, then Tyshawn getting it twice was a bit boring, and people seem to have lost interest.

Give it to Jimmy Wilkins. Shake it up with a vert guy getting it.

People maybe realise that it looks bad and goes against them by looking thirsty. If you just look like you’re putting out footage as you normally would then you’re in the running but with modesty points.

Does that work in America?

probably not

Cheers Dent. This is more like it.

Foy will probably get it but Tiago should.
If SOTY was actually what it purports to be then Gabriel Summers would win it.

My SOTY for sure.

Did he run off in shame after?

I would imagine Foy has sealed the deal now. Unfortunately I think if Thiago doesn’t get SOTY now he may never get it. He has insane pop and switch ability but aside from skating high ledges, the spots are maybe not distinctive enough and he may be reaching his ceiling. It seems to me that with rail skaters like Foy, it is easier to create more impact by finding a crazier rail with more kinks whereas with ledges there isn’t the danger factor.

I’m pretty sure Tyshawn could drop a fucked up part tomorrow and Foy would still win it. He’s nailed on surely. The four parts he has put out this year have all been fucked up good.
