What? Honest question, are you bipolar? I don’t think I was making or rasing any of those points? I also added a lot of context to the image. The date, why the match was happening, the players being pressured and players even pulling out/being dropped as they didn’t agree with it, ect.
The post on Bluesky was that England were making a political statement and I was saying that if anything it was Germany forcing their political views on other counties so the post was taking a shot at the wrong people and not completely accurate, it was trying to sell the image as something it wasn’t. The person posting knew what they were trying to do ‘Here’s a picture of England keeping politics out of football.’ When it should have read to me - ‘here is Germany keeping politics out of football’. Again we even had it recently in Qatar where they pushed their beliefs on teams, who were forced to go along with it. I don’t know where you started pulling all this other stuff out from?

I think all questions can be asked it they are coming from the right place. Is not better to ask a question and learn? You make a lot a assumptions about people because you don’t ask questions. See the difference.
This is me sticking to the point being talked about - the Argentina team made a political statement, no-one else but it’s some how the England’s teams fault by that bluesky posts reasoning, who posts a photo from 1938 to prove some point? I think the photo he posted kind of misses the point for various reasons that I’ve mentioned.

Posts in the Twitter/Bluesky thread largely involve matters in the headlines at that moment. That day the top story on the news, even after the cycle about the football match had finished, was the Argies holding up the sign about the Falklands. I felt it was a bit OTT for it to be top story on the news 24 hours later when there is a huge war kicking off in the middle east etc . I would expect nothing less from the Argies, gold medal shithousery artists that they are. I was far more offended by their behaviour on the pitch and didn’t think it deserved top story on the News at Ten 24 hours later.
That was the point of the post. Nothing else. It was a comment on all sport being political. Everything is politics. That was the only point. First of all, how do you know the players in the photo weren’t fascists? Fascism and in particular the Nazi party were very popular all over the UK at this point. It had been going on for years. They could have all followed the great Stan Cullis’s lead and not done it. My family all thought they were complete wankers at the time and lots of other non Jewish people did too. Stan had lot’s of Jewish friends, including my Grandad some years after this when he moved to Wolverhampton to open its first Casino.
So that photo was taken in 1938. The Germans had been killing and persecuting Jews for years and years at this point. In March 1933, five years before this, The Daily Express ran a headline " Judea declares war on Germany:Jews of all the world unite in action " as the Nazi party came to power.
My family in London and Chicago had ran away from the same sort of thing from the Russians around the turn of the century and had trickled to the UK before and after the first world war. The ones left had all moved to Warsaw over the years since the Russian pogroms. They were regularly attacked by the Nazis in the UK ( or the British Union Of Fascists, exactly the same people ) . The battle of Cable St in East London occurred in 1936. The Nazis were fully supported by both the Daily Mirror and the Daily Mail for nearly the entire 1930’s, they were both owned by Viscount Rothermere who was a close friend of Hitlers. My family had been receiving letters for years and years about the horrors and telling anyone that would listen what the Germans were doing but frankly most people didn’t give a shit.
Then Germany invaded Poland and set up the Warsaw ghetto and all the letters stopped. For 6 long years then they murdered 6 million people. My remaining family we learnt were most likely taken to Treblinka. This was before they had developed the gas chambers and were shooting people on an industrial scale. The most being 18,000 in one day on Sept 19th 1942. My family watched in slow motion for decades and decades while all this went on and we only saved ourselves, frankly. No one was left from my lot when the Russians liberated the death camps. Another cruel irony for many.

We seemed to discussed on the day and everyone moved on, it wasn’t really that big a deal, then three days later I opened up the forum to a reply that to me seemed to be nothing about what we were discussing which was ‘political statements in football’ … I wasn’t talking about you or your family but Bill Brewster’s take on Argentina’s actions after winning the game against England. I found this behaviour confusing and genuinely wondered if there was a reason behind it? As I know people with bipolar that fixate on something and the narrative changes in their heads over the next few days as they sit thinking on something over and over.
You’ve made this massive leap from me talking about the image Bill Brewster posted to making it about something else. I was talking about football, I never mentioned the holocaust or much deeper subjects. As far was I was aware we were talking about the end of the Argentina vs England match in 2026 and yes I found Bill Brewster using a photo from 1938 to prove some point about the 2026 world cup very disingenuous, given Britain’s role in WW2. Also the England team (2026) have not made any political statements in this world cup and this was all about Argentina, I didn’t understand why Bill Brewster was trying to drag the 2026 team into it? With a photo from 1938 no less? What does that prove in 2026 (with the added context we know behind it)?
You’ve got into your own head here, the things I mentioned were because I felt Bill Brewster’s post was trying to paint the England team has some sort of nazi sympathisers, which to me his post does in the way he presented it (you can disagree but that’s just opinions that we both differ on), I just tried show it in a different light with more context.
