Because he joked about fixing the superbowl with Taylor Swift? Slight overreaction there

More with him being an unelectable doddery old liability.

He’s literally the elected president already. Trump is no more coherent than he is. Those who love trump will vote him regardless, same for Biden. The middle ground is being won for the left by how awful the right is being, not how good the left is being

I hope you’re right but Trumps incoherence is baked into his persona.

Biden is in his eighties and seriously appears to be losing it a bit. Stand him down, replace him some young coherent go getter in their sixties and move on.

Tone deaf under the circumstances? What circumstances? When is there ever not bad things happening? US politics has been fucking ridiculous for ages. I quite like that he’s poking fun at the republicans frothy mouthed bullshit. The idiots who believe there’s some deep state cabal who rigged the superbowl or whatever deserve to be taunted

How is that any different than the endless jibes and raucous laughter of every weeks PMQs?

I’m going to dispute that, purely because barbarity isn’t anything new, nor is a more advanced power hammering at a considerably weaker one in a completely one-sided way that’s unfair to anyone with an ounce of critical thought.

Where I do think it’s new is it’s unlike anything we’ve seen publicly in ā€œthe western worldā€ before, and the way that it’s generated such divided, vociferous opinion in people detached from the situation. There’s no unified narrative, only a clusterfuck of racism, xenophobia, misinformation, apathy and panic with precious little realpolitik to balance it out.

Sorry I misunderstood your argument, and thought you were talking about the actual conflict itself, rather than the secondary factors. I quite often forget this place is an echelon above most other places when geopolitics comes out.

100 would feel like quite a few to me but 1000 seems nuts, maybe I just don’t understand the scale of it all.

Nah, one of the biggest events in the whole world. I’m surprised it was only 1000 private jets.

ā€œFace-value tickets usually cost anywhere from $950 for a ā€œnosebleedā€ seat to $9,500 to be just behind the teams, overlooking the 50-yard line. That’s a fraction of what Super Bowl tickets were selling for online.ā€

And here I am moaning about £50 for a ticket to the Villa!

Does anyone think the coverage the Super Bowl gets in this country (or any that isn’t 'Merica really) a bit odd? Seems to be getting more hyped each year too.

As a sport it’s unwatchable.

How can anyone in this country give one tiny shit about any aspect of it?

most of the UK conversation around it this year seems to be around the Taylor Swift aspect of American football (lol) and the adverts in the breaks…?

yanks seems to think its a bigger event than the world cup or anything else. you couldn’t pay me to watch it

Seems now that it’s just ā€œan event to be seen atā€ for celebs. Can’t imagine Kim Kardashian and John Legend are likely there to tot up the running yards the 49ers made during the game.

One positive though is that the ā€œSwiftiesā€ who tuned in based mostly on TayTays involvement shows that she is likely to be a massive motivator for young voters in the upcoming election nonsense, and Swifts not exactly shy in stating that she’s not exactly Pro-Trump. If she backed Biden then Trump might be more embarrassed than the time Putin reminded him he was filmed during his last visit to the Moscow Piss Bonanza

The average American doesn’t care what the rest of the world thinks. They don’t even get the irony of still referring to it as the World Championship or having the World Series in Baseball. To a lot of Americans, America is the centre of the world and anything or where else isn’t worth bothering with. They have a very self obsessed world view.

Americans are weird. I heard they don’t even own kettles and boil their water on the hob?!

For the interest of conversation, here’s some viewing stats from The Athletic:
