Exact opposite for me. If other people are there I feel that, even selfie filming, I’m wasting their time (as they might want to leave before I land it), or that what I’m trying would be easy for them so there’s no point, so don’t try anything hard. Only try things I really want when I’m by myself.

Me too. One of my favourite parts.

Defo an art to self filming well. I find it quite difficult as nothing turns out quite how I want it. Including my Skateboarding :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I try to make the car parks look nice & put the skating in the background ha

A marketing course I did a few years back reckoned published was better than unpublished (& also gave me an awareness that made me more irritated by adverts!)

I was stoked to have my Bun This stuff next to Franks as I made sure to have nettles in shot in contrast to his views.

Same here, I don’t want to film if there’s anyone around, I’d rather skate for fun with my mates and whoever is there, plus when I’m on my own I can do things how I want, there’s less external stress factors involved. I can be really fussy when it comes to some things, like if there’s a kid on a scooter in the background the clip is ruined. That’s a big no-no for me.

I mean more skating than filming. I have rarely filmed and not for maybe 20 years (fuck that’s depressing)

I struggle to even get the motivation to go skating on my own. I do actually like skating around on my own if i’m in a place that warrants it. I’m not embarrassed and I can do basic stuff but I have no motivation to put effort in as I think I need the right level of inspiration and vibe to break through to try.

I started skating on my own again during the lockdowns and totally fell in love with it, it’s basically meditation to me and that alone is enough motivation to go skating.
Sometimes I’ll go for a mellow solo skate where I just cruise around and try to do long lines, sometimes I’ll start skating with no plans but something I haven’t done before or in a while will seem possible and I’ll work on that and possibly film it, sometimes I just film basic shit for the sake of trying to get a nice clip (you guys and your love of Alpine backdrops are to blame for that, hahaha).
I never know what kinda session I’m about to have when I leave the house, I just go skating whenever I can and see what happens.

I love the idea of that. Trouble is, I have to put alot of effort to go somewhere worthy. I definitely don’t have anything local I can get a quiet widdle on.

Anywhere is acceptable if you just want to be on your board. Sometimes I skate the curb by mine, it’s rubbish, you can’t grind or slide or do anything on it really, I just do weird stall tricks and manuals and it’s always good for the soul.

I just really like going skateboarding.

I mean, at least half of my trips to Barcelona and Paris since Covid have been solo as nobody else was free to go but I just wanted to skate Barcelona and Paris.

I’ve seen it many a time, where a session or a skater is having fun trying something but as soon as a camera comes out, that fun gets sucked away.
Suddenly something that was just carefree and messing about feels like pressure to land it and land it fast, with the added self perceived pressure that they are wasting the filmers, peoples time, the trick probably isn’t that good anyway (in their mind), they are soon over it after a few tries and want to move on to something else that feels fun again where they don’t feel like the centre of attention.

It is the fun sucker…but I sometimes like the output.

Now that’s what I call love and dedication! So rad.

I love carrying my grind box to my car boot, driving to an empty car park, installing my grind box, warming up and trying to work on a new move. It would seem like a lot of work for not much to a lot of skaters but the whole process is very satisfying.

Sometimes I get a new trick then I watch my clip(s) in my car with a cig and a cuppa and it’s the best feeling in the world, or close to it.
