Fun fact: Swiss rolls arenât called Swiss rolls in Switzerland, where they were not invented. We simply call them rolled cakes (gateau roulĂ©, Roulade or biscotto arrotolato respectively in French, German and Italian).
I had to look up on Wiki as I thought it was an Austrian thing, it apparently is.
Fun fact 2: those biscuits I call coeurs de France (French hearts in Swiss French) are called Preussen (Prussians) in German and biscotti prussiani (Prussian biscuits) in Italian. The French have loads of names for them but none of them are linked to France or Prussia. Would be interesting to know where these names came from as itâs obviously the same thing.
