Andy Anderson - 'Crazy Wisdom' video part

Before I understood what he’d done with the tape on the rail I thought either the rail was extra rusty and grippy or that he was using some wild AA braking method by pinching somehow. Obviously it was neither of those.

Varial heel flip melon over the spine, long street line, Tony Hawk ramp line and inside bench carve were sick!

AA reveals how he gorilla taped the bottom of his deck to avoid slipping out of Maya’s spin to fs crooks.

Fuck it, I give the guy a pass.

We like to think and say we’re unique but Andy Anderson is more unique than 99.99999% of skateboarders in the world. The same could be said about Todd Falcon but Todd Falcon never did kickflip backtail bigspins in lines.

That part was entertaining and I liked watching it.
Am I gonna watch it again? Probably not.
Does AA deserve credit for it? Absolutely.

Ramped slomo is used so often to do exactly this.
And now I am pulling the curtain away in saying so.

This.

Slow down tape is no different to using 1kg of wax to sit on a 20ft back tail. Just don’t show the gig.

Maybe I haven’t seen people use ramped slow mo to enhance certain misgivings in their tricks, ramped slow mo is an effect to show style and intricacies that would be lost in a quick/blink of an eye trick. What you’re suggesting is more akin to speeding up a slow skaters footage to make them look like they skate faster, that’s deceit. A fisheye to get the trick in and attempt to make the spot look gnarlier is an argument you could make but it’s not the same, the person still did the trick exactly as they did just the angle is a different perspective.
And I agree, the presentation spoils his whole schtick.

wax is tried and tested and needed in order to do what skaters do, this tape is a new spin on unlocking a spot and it’s going to ruffle feathers, I think it’s fine if you want to do it but there are questions to be had about how you present it.

You have. I guarantee it.
This is the point. It’s used to distract from not getting that perfect one.
It’s most commonly used when a skater can’t get the speedy roll away they need. A slomo roll out helps hide that.

That’s one example.

The reason you feel you haven’t seen it is because it works really well.

It’s not deceit because everything you are seeing actually happened. It’s just showing the trick or skater in the best possible light and nothing more.

I get the rollaway thing, I can imagine I have seen many scenarios where that has happened, many dodgy roll aways have been slowed and cut short to detract from something questionable, Fair enough. I do still think that ramping that portion of the grind to make it seem like it’s more consistent is slightly different. However, none of this matters, he didn’t do that anyway, ha!

I think the last song reminded me of the 80s synth stuff used in old Powell peralta videos

Half flip Natas spin was bonkers .

Would like to know how long some of these took

Needed some b-roll of his missus in a vest top

The tape is a funny one because its not like anyone else was skating it naturally and he used the tape to make it easier. Its a fucking mental nonspot. Noone would be doing anything on it without the tape, same as Hinson wouldnt be skating along 24ft of grass or cobbles to get to a handrail and Danny Way wouldnt be jumping over the Great Wall of China from the flat. He’s still got to grind a 90ft with a 90 degree turn in it, Id say he gets a pass

Tape or no tape that 50-50 was seriously gnarly.

How does that tape even work? I don’t understand how it slows you down in a way you can still grind.

The feeble on the back of the vert and the natas spin onto the rail were pretty dangerous.

Darkslides stink.

The tape isn’t just tape. It’s cut up yoga mat that he fit to the rail and then put tape over the top. Then he waxed the tape. Weird process.

Does anyone know what trucks he’s riding? For someone who is so particular about his set up it doesn’t look likes he riding any of the “mainstream” brands

Don’t ask how or why I know this but he rides Mini Logo trucks.

All is explained here

Pretty sure he rides Mini Logo trucks. I had a pair and they don’t turn great. Edit: didn’t realise already answered above ha
