Black Lives Matter

Looking at Twitter, perhaps not the best yardstick I know, plenty of black people find this move laughable. Whereas many liberal white people are applauding, that might not be a fair representation of the whole picture but that’s what I’m seeing.

If you like, I can even ask a friend or family member but I think I’ll leave it.

Rhodes going:

Good move.

Not exactly what I was saying but go with that if you like. I’ve looked at what a number of black people have said in the matter, some have been for it, some against, finding it comical.

I find the actions of the company insincere and that this removal is barely a step in the right direction, that’s my main gripe.

@jonocrawford you’re a class-A bell end and can go fuck yourself, you’re banned, you’re bringing nothing constructive to the table

Bro let’s not derail the crazy by bringing skating in here, there’s a whole forum for talking about sidewalk surfing

Nah I think it’s good at least a little bit of noise is made. Shows that people are taking things seriously and makes you wonder what all the other statues have shady pasts. Raises awareness definitely. Don’t need ant and Dec to do a Saturday night special on removing it but you know what I mean

It’s just branding, if only a very small percentage of people find it offensive it should go. I personally don’t care about it or statues.

On a much more positive note, I learned about this man on a call at work regarding racial diversity this week:

There are some very negative things that have been brought up during this part of the BLM movement and they need to be discussed, but I think it’s good to hear some inspiring life stories from the black community as well.

FUCKING HAMMERS BROOO

Personally, I think it’s important to have these arguments, especially on here. We can maybe change each others opinions, learn, think with another perspective. Healthy growth. Or if not, it just weeds out cunty people who can’t change.

If we don’t talk about it then what are we doing here, sucking each other off silently?
This forum nearly died of boredom but Thankfully Spanky had the balls to bring it back and it’s doing ok. We could be a bit more inviting sometimes. I know tonight, the newcomers were not up to scratch but, lets baptise accordingly when we do have visitors. Anyway, ha.

What the hell happened in Glasgow this evening?!

This is going to sound classist, apologies for that, but I have noticed that most of these ‘counter protestors’ have been young working-class white men. I know the far-right always recruit impressionable, marginalised young men, but the large turn outs are really troubling. How did we get here? Britain has become a hideously toxic society with Brexit. I also thinking the demonisation of the working class that the media have indulged in, and we’ve talked about on here, has played a massive part. I feel you could read those same radicalising narratives, which we usually associate with those who join terrorist organisations, into the trajectories of a lot of these men.

I think it’s always been there, just opinions made legit by what Farage left in his wake.

Not sure where I heard it but it was put that the far left and the far right are the start and endpoints of a circle, so much so that their methods are aligned but they are separated by a difference of opinion.
Everything else along the circumference of that circle becomes more moderate as you move towards the central point and gradually more extreme the further you go in either direction.
We are witnessing the allowance of the start and endpoints of that circle to be more expressive, which to watch unfold, is tense.

Yeah, the horseshoe theory. It was thought up in the wake of Stalinism, when the differences between the totalitarianism of the Soviet Union didn’t seem that different to that of Nazism.

Personally, I think that theory doesn’t work for what we’re seeing now. The left are looking to make positive change and stand up for victimised groups, but what does the right stand for? More victimisation?! We’re dealing with legitimised thugs who want to smash people trying to help others.

The centre point seems to be open to movement making the right wing less definable than the vast range of options to the left of it.
Until of course they meet up again at full 360.

on top of everything else when you think it couldnt get any worse, it is revelaed UK taxpayers only finsihed repaying the debts incurred by the government taking out a massive loan to pay compensation to the slave-owners after the abolition of slavery in 2015. 2015! A few of the recipients descendants are MPs and in the House of Lords including the prick with moat for his duck house. so sickening

had to watch this to cheer myself up, i am personally a non-violent person but fair play to this guy, that is a sweet punch (stumbled across this page on fb as someone else had posted the video - football lads against fascism - its set up in direct opposition to all those wankers from the demo, and does restore some faith that not all ‘geezers’ are racist Michael Fabricants), apologies to anyone who finds this violence abhorrent. i normally would too but he really was asking for it. mods feel free to remove if not allowed

Good work man. Just a shame that silencing people like that often makes them think they must be “right”. Oh well fuck him.

This video series is a really interesting analysis of right-wing debate tactics and how they lead people to think their terribly thought out arguments are correct. Here’s a few of them but there’s many more

I don’t think that guy should have been banned. Shutting people away with opposing views might just fuel his hate.

The conversation was going in a direction where he was actually listening to people…
If educating is the way forward, then banning people with views we don’t agree with is regressive.
