On the one hand, he is clearly very self aware and likes to turn up his well spokeness and enunciation for things like his podcast and this ad. At the same time, that means emphasising aspects of his life that are a bit privileged and potentially alienating - the prefect badges he did with Thames or appearing in the Platinum Jubilee parade - even if he is doing so in a sort of ironic way.
I don’t totally hate this ad. There is a daftness to it which I quite like, and I like that Blondey doesn’t take himself too seriously. Just as others have said, Blondey’s output does often feel a bit awkward.

This was great and I loved it. Made me want to buy wellies. That’s impressive advertising because I don’t give a fuck about wellies.

Ok maybe hypocrite is a strong word, but I don’t think there’s any difference between this and some of the stuff that Palace put out. At the end of the day we all like what we like, and neither brand are bothered about appealing to mid thirtys northern blokes, but at least this feels like it’s laughing at itself a little bit.
Hope not, if I made a silly video about wellies I’d probably hope people thought “huh, that was silly” and find it funny if they didn’t.
There have been many, way worse collabs released with far less humour and self awareness.

I dunno. All those palace and supreme collabs made me puke in my mouth a little bit. I know palace started off trolling and they probably still are, I’m stoked they made a bunch of cash but stilI.
I choose to view these Blodney ones as a bit of a jab. Luis Vuitton skateboard. Palace Gucci Cardigan. Aspirational wellies. He’s obviously taking the piss.
I just think it’s entirely possible that he doesn’t take himself as seriously as internet critics think he does. I don’t really pay that much attention, I saw those horrible Adidas and the baked beans, usually I don’t watch many of the videos.
Meh. Maybe I am maybe I’m not. Either way I like him and his partridge steeze.

I’m enjoying the Blodney thread a great deal while listening to Ganja Kru on repeat. I have a pair of Hunter wellies in the garage. I cut the buckles off because that’s what OGs do.
