Wasn’t his last thing on BBC3? So, teenagers.
Yeah I guess but the Drop got cancelled after its first series so not sure this will cut through to a more youthful audience either.
I also have no idea what that was meant to be, but I’m oddly finding him more and more endearing each time he pops up…
Def not target, but lolled at the cab driver “Do I know you from somewhere mate?” gag.
His mate asking the BBC woman if she skated as Blondey arrived was a nice touch. I’d probably watch an episode out of curiosity.
I’m going to watch this.
Looks alright to me
I think it looks like great fun, I’ll keep an eye out!
Are people vaguely in the biz obliged to say positive things?
JK (hopefully obvious)
who knows? it might get funny, pilots, trailers are rarely funny for anything.
Same here but I have no idea why.
Same, I’ve never disliked him but I do find it all mystifying. And the relationship between money, influence, class, privilege and skill, opportunity etc is just really interesting.
Just to be able to have a go at whatever you want and have that entry level into success is crazy. And of course, there is no guarantee of success but that’s down to skill and execution and many other things…
But, whatever. Couldn’t do anything but cringe at this though, can’t help it.
But people (presumably) don’t learn impossibles and nosebluntslides at private school.
I can impossible and nosebluntslide but they wouldn’t get me a BBC tv show
You get the 270 out training at private school.
I’m sure you can see the holes in your point yourself
Not really. If I’m reading it correctly, I can see holes in yours though.
Is he good at skateboarding, good at talking and often very funny because his dad is well off? Matt Pritchard was good at skateboarding, good at talking and funny, and he had a TV career too - Matt’s family aren’t posh. What’s that got to do with it? Assuming that’s the point you’re going for.
Ah, ok, I guess I should have stated that I meant “the relationship between etc” was in general, not specifically to him. It is interesting how things work in the world.
But you could assume and attribute these things to his trajectory. Dude can skate and is a go getter for sure so he could have gotten to these places without any influence, that’s why i’m saying that whole topic is interesting rather than flat out saying dudes shit at everything and is silver spooned. That’s not what I believe. I don’t care for his output but doesn’t mean I don’t believe others find worth in any of it.
I don’t really care about that side of things personally, I suppose it could be interesting to some and good luck to them. At this point I just struggle to picture the target audience, if they showed his film again would they sell out of tickets at the PCC? Do his Thames products actually sell?
The discourse around his background has been done to death on here but it’s still like he’s the first private school educated pro skateboarder of all time to some it seems.
I like him more since he goes fully into character. It was harder to digest when he was still trying to play sponsored street skater.
Only reason I can think of why he stays afloat and keeps up with his projects is through connections and having some social skills.
I don’t care about his home life, parents etc. Kids born into that shouldn’t be given grief, they had no choice, you are born into what you’re born into. It’s more fascinating how people get places without the desired level of skill or ideas (in general)
I’m talking hypothetically of course, i’m aware of how it works but it’s amazing really, the diversity of qualities of what is promoted to sell.
I’m gonna stop now as it might start to sound like i’m bitter about people going places when i’m not. I know exactly why i’m not and that’s down to me in various ways.
Kinda wish I had half of Blondey’s drive though, definitely not his privilege.
