Facebook marketplace is a very odd place indeed.

They just dug that up?

I’ve been caught out by used BMWs before. Small issues end up being very expensive so I wouldn’t buy one that I can see hasn’t been looked after, even if the issues that are visible look easy to fix. BMW labour costs are horrendous.

Looks that way, but it does have low mileage!

I know I would probably be best askng this on a longboard dancing or kitesurfing forum but does anyone know much about VW campers? We’re after one, probably £20-25k. Might wait until after this summer season since I think the prices could be a bit daft at the moment. Seems like an absolute minefield, though.

WOAH

Offside front tyre fouling part of the vehicle is NOT good. If something is broken inside the wheel arch, like a bit of plastic, and it’s rubbing, then that’s fine. If everything is fine under there but the wheel is rubbing that sounds like the geometry is out of whack, which sounds like passenger side front has taken a hit and made the geometry all pissed.

Would have to see the car, or drive it, to be sure but that’s alarm bells. I’d look for accident damage around the front end, sounds like there’s a lot wrong with it. And how the fuck can you be missing a coil spring? That’s like a major major part of the suspension.

Yeah I figured the spring must have been replaced but they had to note it like that…

Starting to sound a bit iffy now though.

I’d be sacking that right off.

Could have cut the springs. Know plenty of people who’ve done that.

That’s the thing with suv or range rover style vehicles , people think they’re big and made for off road so will bounce them off anything , hit speed bumps at full speed etc. Stuff they’d never do in a normal car.

Prices are high at the moment. We bought a caravelle. T5. Normally prices peak in the summer and usually dip a little in the quieter months. This last year they’ve stayed high and then some with the whole staycation thing. The newer model fitted with the 180 bitdi engine can be issue. They have a known issue with the egr cooler where part of it breaks and the engine then consumes loads of oil and writes the engine off.

I had a car once with cut springs was awful! They were cable tied to the struts to stop them falling out when jacking it up. And you could hear them spinning whilst driving. I soon replaced with a set of actually lowering springs

VW turbo Diesel engines have always had egr issues , you’d think they’d have it sorted by now.

Cool, cheers. Yeah I’m kind of hoping that by the time summer is over there’ll be a few folks so fucked off with the UK they’ll be selling their campers to fund foreign holidays. Still not sure what I’m even looking at with them at the moment. I’ll nosey round a few once the garages open again in April.

This one seems to be a big issue. Some people say the ones after X year are OK or if they’re are fitted this part number and stuff. I joined a group before we bought ours and that engine choice is the one to avoid like the plague. Many have the whole engine replaced and is quite common.

There’s been a couple I’ve seen where people are asking really high prices for what they. You could buy something already converted, do it yourself, loads of options.

Yeah, I have thought about the DIY approach, I’m pretty sure I could do it if I got the pop top done professionally and also got a grown-up to help with the electrics. It’s just time really.

Blimey , what a fuck up by VW.

My brother had the golf TDi that after 100k miles the egr valve would start failing and blocking , throwing oil back through the turbo and system. The turbo eventually went and the MAF sensor was just caked which didn’t help.

They’re great engines other than that. So pokey and quick . Loads of nice torque.

Ours is the 2.5 it’s got a egr delete but to stop it throwing a light it’s got a cheap tuning box fitted. I really need to get it mapped properly but it flys for something that’s nearly 2.5 tonnes.

Could see myself driving one of these.
