It wrote the code, explained where to save it and all is sorted…Took ten mins.
Incredible.

Just saw on BBC News that ChatGPT has been banned in Italy.
Citing GDPR? I dont get that at all.
Bit draconian but I sort of get it, you’re firing over a bunch of potentially sensitive data at an API and that data is used to further train the models. Nothing stopping you sending a bunch of PII at it, which would then be stored wherever it’s stored, presumably in the US. Still a weird decision.
I think you can buy dedicated compute on shore now but it’s pricey.
Italy also banned lab grown meat this week so I’m not sure they’re trying to set themselves up as the most progressive country.
I’ve just used it to generate all the resources for next half terms English lessons. Massive time saver for teachers and pretty remarkable really. Stuff like “write ten sentences using a fronted adverbial”

The only things it seems to have messed up was including Groundhog Day from ‘93 when I specified only up until What about Bob? and mistaking Bill Murray for Richard Dreyfus’ character.
You just need to tell it the specific mistakes it made and ask it to try again.
This is where it absolutely shines and really will take over.
Once people learn how to really fine tune it, itll put so many people out of work.
Cant just stifle technology to save jobs though or we’d still be delivering stuff by Horse & Cart lol

To be fair that is a dog shit rap - AABB or ABAB rhyme scheme all the way through. Mildly impressive until you realize it’s fairly devoid of any artistry.
If we still delivered by horse and cart we might not be this deep into climate changes unmitigatable doom loop by now (yes I am posting this from my smartphone). Technological progress is always a two sided coin at best when allowed to proceed unchecked.
There was a good guardian long reads article on AI recently. The journalist asked chat gpt to write about an emerging field of study - it did this very competently and then recommended a reading list. Journo was impressed - until he discovered 3 out of 4 of the books didn’t actually exist. Will try and link below.

It’s really interesting isn’t it? Really understand the concerns about these AIs or large language models are only able to generate output based on the work of humans and those humans not being compensated. But at the same time none of the stuff they are learning from was just magicked out of thin air by the authors using nothing but pure creativity. A lifetime of learning from others is the main thing that enabled them to write. I guess the argument is that humans can actually add something whereas machines can do nothing but rehash what’s already there.
I want to see an AI edited and moderated Wikipedia.
First time I played about with it I wanted to show my colleague, so thought of something silly as an example and got it to write her a letter of termination signed by myself. But then before I got the chance to show her I forgot about it and went to get some lunch, and she found it on the screen. Was a mortifying 20 minutes for her and I still feel bad about it haha
