Yep same up here. My sister has to go back to work at her school three days early for training on Covid testing and other Covid related stuff.

I’m not trained to be a nurse thanks and I doubt three days of half-arsed powerpoints from the DfE is going to change that.

I’ve never been part of a Union before so have no experience of collective action/strikes/etc but I’d be surprised if the NEU/NASUWT don’t kick off soon and when they do, I’ll be happy to join in.

‘Militant unions’ lol.
So militant that they tried to protect their members and the country by pointing out that returning to school as normal in September would cause massive spikes in infection and that perhaps, rather than wasting billions on test & trace that doesn’t work and hookey PPE, maybe the Govt could invest in proper off-site learning tech.
What happened? Massive spike in infection. Thousands of schools closed. Thousands of ‘heroes’ ill and fucked with long covid symptoms. Mind you, shouldn’t complain, we did a get a 10 year overdue pay rise.
Another aside (apologies for the rant) - the Govt have now cancelled all the bursary funding for trainee teachers (so that people can afford to take a year off to train) because so many people applied to do training this year - presumably due to fears of unemployment etc.
In the Govt’s eyes that means ‘yes! no more teacher shortage so fuck em, they can find a way to survive on fuck all for a year in future’.
Current situation - huge numbers of newly qualified staff leaving teaching after one term.
Anecdotally, two of the people I trained with (out of 25) have already handed their notices in.

i cant work out why they’re bothering to test kids?!..the results will no doubt confirm the whole population is riddled with it…just carry on being as sensible as possible till the vaccines are rolled out
Jacob and Boris will know. Now they’ve got their kids home from Eton for Xmas - stick them in tier 4 and give the whole area a good delousing before next term in the new year

Maybe I’m thinking about this the wrong way here, but if they want to test school children won’t the kids have to attend school in the first place to be tested further increasing the chances of any positive cases spreading? Touch wood my daughters school has only had 1 case.
Hancock on Marr just now was really alarming. New mutation is 70% more infectious than previous strains and looks like children/young people transmit it more readily. Unsure whether this mutation makes people iller or that the vaccine works against it (hopeful that it will). Hancock wants us to behave as if we all have the virus - then put everyone in lockdown you fucking dick, we need firm action here. People need to be shook up a bit.
So he wants me to act as though I have it, but also wants me to work in the middle of a shopping centre all day surrounded by thousands of people who I also have to presume have it.

Just when I thought it couldn’t get worse… the mrs’ brother who works at a church has just suggested we join his place of worships carol service over zoom and sing. Ironically my idea of hell but can’t really let the wife down as she’s keen and misses her family. Might just get pissed beforehand.
