Equipment Thread

I usually don’t care about new technologies when it comes to skate gear but if it’s made and sold by DLX it could be interesting.

It won’t be real basalt. That’s silly .
It’ll be a new magic material, like boneite

Hmmmm

Not really, I think you may have confused it with obsidian. Basalt is an igneous rock much like granite but, put simply, they differ in silica content and rates of cooling. In a past life I was a geologist but have put all of that behind me so won’t go off on a detailed ramble. You were right with the assumption that it can be used as a reinforcing fibre material - here’s a Wikipedia link that will shed some light on what’s going on inside those DLX decks.

You’re right. I got it wrong. I read that there’s a glassy firm of basalt, called basalt glass, so I imagined all basalt was glass-like. But it’s not.
I’ve also just discovered that Rockwool wall insulation is made from basalt fibres, so it can be very soft and pliable! Not like having a flint deck or something.

I’m actually a world renowned expert on basalt. Here’s a video I made a couple of years ago.

Can anyone recommend a good skateboard bag, for cycling with. Sling or backpack. Preferably not too pricey

Cheers!

The element ones as a sling aren’t too bad for short cycles. Mine is normally 10-15 mins max though on a flat route.

There was a decathlon one for ten quid that someone recommended on here a while back. I got one and they’re pretty good and no nonsense.

How much else can you fit in one of these? Could you get a change of clothes in there?

Yeah. I reckon so

Ok wow. They’re insanely cheap. Ever tried cycling with it?

Might have to get one and try it out.

Yeah unless you’re off-roading it works fine - adjustable straps etc

There’s a chunkier one for 40 quid that looks pretty good too

I have got a few of these bags.

I have that bag from decathlon. You can get a board in (or two if you strap to the back) and plenty of space left for clothes/spare shoes etc in the bag. And a section that separates them so all the shite on your board doesn’t get on your clothes. It is comfy even when it is full. Used it for skate trips/camping and it is great.

Also got this one from dc maybe 4/5 years ago and it is still going strong.

It’s lighter and more flexible than the decathlon one and folds into a smaller backpack which is a big benefit. Not as much space as the other one, but still holds plenty. Managed to cycle round Copenhagen with it full of beers with no problem. Big pocket at front to put stuff in.

And the first one I got was a temps mort one. It was shite. Strap broke and the never replied when I tried to contact them. That was the most expensive one too.

I cycle about loads and have had no issues with the dc one or the decathlon one.

I got one of these SB Shuttle backpacks (haven’t seen them anywhere for years) and can’t praise it enough. Got it about 15 years ago and still going. It’s a tiny bit short so boards squeeze in but shoes, beers and change of clothes go in no problem

Thanks for the intel @2_fiddy I might get a decathlon one. No idea why, probably never need it but straps look a bit beefier?!

Just trying to find the top ply discussion for an important update and spotted this! Cheddar Goblin appeared in my insta last weekend!!!

Can’t find thread but I bought a Girl deck a month back and it is a beige top. And considering I really don’t like natural, I do like the beige for some reason. Whatever. Orange centre, Black bottom. G26 Carroll. Kinda hyped to skate it to be honest, it’s all a little pulled in compared to what I’ve been skating for a long time.

Not overly keen on the Cafe but don’t hate it. Doesn’t have that sharp crack that the Polar decks have when popping, which is more down to the forged plates I believe, but the Cafe isn’t as sharp if that makes sense. It has three small chips which is unusual for me.

I’m just thinking and typing whilst I wait for work stuff to run…dull post but it’s a skateboard forum.

I set a one up a couple of weeks back. Beige top, black bottom and aqua green middle ply. It’s a tad bigger than my usual toothpick of choice. I even had to size my trucks up to fit. Loving it. It’s unlikely I’ll be sizing down again.

My only issue on first skating it was that my bigger trucks, (and they’re normal height, not lows, for the first time in decades), meant the turning circle was a bit wider and so even though I’d slacked them off as much as I could they still felt too tight and unresponsive. I swapped out the stock bushings for soft Bones and loosened them off just a touch, which I was able to do because the Bones bushings are a bit narrower giving me a thread or two more to play with on the kingpin, and I like how it feels now.

Yes mate! Riding my first ever Girl deck currently. It’s G045. Really like the shape and the quality seems really good. I love model number system, means I can fully nerd out on details
