Absolute bollocks. Hate these brown nose collabs. At least there’s not too much of a skateboarding link in this one.

What’s the story regarding airwalk? I had an airwalk backpack in year 8, and even I knew then that they weren’t cool (was just happy to have something skate related). That was 20 years ago, and it’s been at least 30 years since they were actually legit, but they’re still in business so someone’s been buying their products all this time.

First pair of skate shoes I had were some Airwalk’s from a shop called AllSports in Stourbridge town shopping centre. I think AllSports was a sister company to JD?

In fact the first board I had (shitty United Skates complete with an alien on the bottom) was from there too!

Feels like Airwalk is something that’s just been passed from holding company to holding company. Like tomgnargore said I remember seeing Airwalks in sports shops in early 00s, then more recently 80s throwback designs in TK Maxx. Would love to know whos behind this trendy revival attempt

A quick google and it looks like Airwalk is owned by Authentic Brands.
They own a bunch of brands. Almost all of them are dogshit.

Perfect example of a brand which, if it were curated properly, could make a fortune with heritage releases.
See also I-Path.
There are too many mongs in the shoe biz for this to happen though sadly.

I’d kill for some blue suede Cats or a Kenny Reed re-release

Yeah ethically/sustainably made Ipath cats would hit with the Goodhood/End crowd given the right branding

Had a pair of the I-Path Mongs and would love a pair again.

Remember having a long chat with some knowledgeable heads in the shoe game regarding Airwalk - apparently they completely blew out their distribution, went too big too quick in too many shit stores

I rated the I-Path Yogis (Matt Field). Had a few pairs of those. The Yogis and the Travellers (Kenny Reed’s shoe) had the same sole and profile. I got stopped on a couple of occasions by Japanese students/ tourists asking what they were and where they could get some. They were stoked on the rising sun side panel. I could probably still skate in those.

The Grasshopper and Cats had the same sole and they were too bulky, round toed and wide for me to skate in even back then. I remember people saying that the Cats were like skate Wallabies. They kind of were like Wallabies if they were on steroids. I think seeing them now they’d probably look like teddy boy shoes. :man_shrugging:
