Falling Down?

The thing that was so sick about Taxi Driver/ King of Comedy was that it was for the most part a much more nuanced look at a troubled person on the edge of society. Not everything was really explained as to why they were how they were and it didn’t have everything spelt out for you.

Joker wanted to be like this but was the character was so on the nose and over-acted

I’m not routing for censorship particularly, I don’t know a solution. People enjoy these games and films, I enjoy the films, I love being scared, it’s adrenalin. And certain issues need to be covered in serious drama.
I just hope that there is a way to turn something around in order to get empathy, maybe teaching in schools. I know there are talks about social media etiquette being put in somehow. But life, moral, empathy, fuck loads of shit needs to be added to the curriculum.

I prefer Taxi Driver myself, Falling Down is great, I haven’t seen it for a while but his triggers included being part of the rat race day in day out, getting stuck in traffic, the burger scene etc, it was more of a look at capitalism. Whereas Taxi Driver he could see this seedy underbelly of N.Y. and just didn’t know where he fitted in to society, you really didn’t know what he was going to do, he could have swung either way and then ends up doing something that’s seen as heroic but in reality was dark as fuck. I think they’re quite different films really, with Joker being a lot more like Taxi Driver than Falling Down.

I’ve watched this series with my daughter and it’s great, the first episode on Social Media is really interesting but it’s cut in a way that kids can watch it without getting bored:

They do a load of experiments, including gathering peoples opinions on somebody singing live where they are all quite complimentary (the woman is purposefully bad) then they show a video of someone of the same standard but it’s on YouTube so the kids all slate her, then they bring her in and ask them to give the feedback directly to the woman, and obviously it’s awkward is hell having these squirming kids saying she can’t sing to her face, it highlights that flippant comments online have consequences.

Well worth a watch!

Sounds great, i’ll look into that. I feel my kids will be ok obviously due to us even having these concerns but I doubt many parents will be bothered to get their kids watching it. This thing need to be put in front of the kids out of the hands of parents.

I just realised that censorship is actually needed for kids.

I started off by writing a post saying I didn’t believe in it untill I realised…

Lethal weapon watched as young as I can remember and way before the age of 6 - May explain why I like shooting guns.

Die Hard, again before the age of 6 - wonder why I loved blowing deodorant cans up and making shit nail bombs untill my early 20’s?

Walking round primary school telling dudes to suck it while perfecting my DX crotch chop I learned from wwf the night before while I still find funny, really shouldn’t be, right?

Fortnite? To me is tame, I honestly don’t know what age I would let my girl play that, although I would choose it over COD due to the real guns and blood.

But yeah, food for thought to me today…

I haven’t even thought about music, little mix dressing like sluts aimed at little girls? Hmmm

I was enjoying being a Dad untill now haha

Honestly can’t tell if you’re being serious here or not, hoping the latter

I think the thing is not censorship just education, i’m not suggesting we have all these cool things taken away from us. I thought parental discretion would be enough but some parents are morons so…

Because it sounds ridiculous to me

Bang on!

Really? Why?

Because I like shooting guns at the range in the states a few times a year? And I think it maybe a link from watching gun films as a kid?

Education over censorship like cunt was saying has worked here as I’m not smoking Mandems in London over a fiver of hash haha

Same way I’m not going to censor combats sports from my daughter, but educate her from the start.

So casually put, love it.

I swear I typed out his full username sorry cuntflambe haha

Saw it last night and whilst I enjoyed it overall I definitely agree with this comment. I was left wondering how on earth he was then in the position to become a criminal mastermind, I just couldn’t picture that particular character developing much further. It was like you could’ve made that film, not called it the Joker or tied it into the Batman story in any way and it’d be fine.

That was the directors intention:

ā€œIt’s [ Joker] not really connected to that [DC Movie] Universe,ā€ Phillips said according to Comicbook.com .

ā€œAnd it was really intentionally not. I mean the original idea when I went to [Warner Bros] with the idea was not just about one movie, but about a label – sort of a side label to DC, where you can do this kind of character study, low-rent, low-budget movies, where you get a filmmaker to come in and do some deep dive into a character.

ā€œSo it was never meant to connect, so I don’t see it connecting to anything in the future. I think this is just this movie, you know?ā€
