Oh yeah because Southgate is a tactical genius!
Eddie is a much better manager than Southgate on the pitch. We had to sit back against Spain so what logic starting (and keeping) Kane on the pitch for over an hour when heās been so slow. We needed fast creative players on the break and I feel like Eddie wouldāve played that team (because he DOES do that week in week out).
See you back in this thread in two years time for the next World Cup!
Iāll be off once you apologise to me for this.
The only person consistenly defending England for nearly a month straight was Welsh.
Enjoy Nottingham Forest v Ipswich or whatever ![]()
Southgate gone then
Les aināt gonna be too happy
He leaves a pretty rich man youād think. He deserves credit for getting England into major finals as that was a struggle for ages with people who were much better at club level. Iāve not enjoyed watching it very much at times to say the least but actually winning anything would be massively overachieving so whoever comes next will likely get the same results or maybe worse. Letās just hope itās better to watch!
Yep. He just couldnāt get England over the line twice. Iām not sure what is worse, losing a final by being so uncreative or from now on losing in the group stages in style? Haha.
Iām delighted for him. He can hold his head up high. Iām not sure a lot of England fans can.
For the record, I think Southgate did a fantastic job for England. He inherited a mess, turned it around and went on to become the most succesful manager since Sir Alf in 1966.
Unfortunately for us, I donāt think he was tactically astute or ruthless enough to get us over the line.
Whatās Pep doing when his City contract runs out?
Talk about receipts
The 2 things can be true at the same time. As I said in my previous post.
Overall Southgate did a great job. He got England to the later stages in 4 consecutive tournaments.
But as soon as we came up against one of the other big boys, his lack of tactical nouse was evident.
I seem to be forgetting what heās won? Remind me? Managed to lose two finals? Yay success!
āYou know that guy that keeps losing finals, best in the business! Lucky to have himā Hahaā¦
You stay classy San Diego
Being honest.
Canāt wait to see how well you take all the Welsh Rugby losses from now on, haha.
Trolling aside, Southgate has been more successful than any England menās manager since we won the World Cup by a huge margin. This quote popped up in one of the billion articles on his departure.
āIn the 25 major tournaments post-1966 before Gareth took charge, we had won seven knockout games. In his four tournaments, we have won nine. So, in his eight years, he has won more games that really matter than in the previous 50 years.ā
Do I like how his team played? Not really. Do I think he was lucky at times? Absolutely. Do I think heās by far the best manager weāve had in a long time⦠also yes. Iām not saying it wasnāt his time to go, just that thereās every chance the next step will be backward not forward.
Itād be really cool if Southgate went back to the U21s but thatās clearly not going to happen.
Wonder what the squad is going to look like in two years. Assumably Kane and Walker will be past it by then
