While I fully agree, the usual argument people bring up next is that if you move the lines then there will inevitably be a dispute about where the daylight should start etc.

I think it is the law that is the issue. It was supposed to stop goalhanging and gaining advantage. There must be some way to change it for the better

Playing devils avocado a bit here:

Why is it that no one kicks off when a goal is ruled out by Hawk Eye goal-line technology? The ball could be 1mm away from being a goal, but if the refs watch doesn’t beep it’s not gone in and the game continues.

But if someone is 1mm offside like Isak last night, the same old conversations happen.

My suggestion - scrap VAR entirely and ban slow motion or replays of any kind on tv coverage.
(Which will never happen!)

Offside is offside. Even if it’s by 1mm.

If the whole ball doesn’t cross the line then it’s not a goal.

That technology is all that is needed. Sack of the rest of the bullshit.

You say offside is offside but…

The whole body has to be off-side to me, not a shoulder or a bootlace. Not even clear daylight just being a head of the player enough that it is an advantage. When they are basically side by side but a toe is 2cm’s ahead of the defenders what real advantage is that?

“offside is offside” clearly doesn’t work though. they simply don’t have detailed enough cameras to be like “oh yeah that’s definitely offside”. a split second difference of when the ball is released could determine everything

the clear daylight method means you’re not talking fractional millimetres and the shitty cameras should be able to pick it up properly

also, more important, it means more goals and entertainment

Naaaahhhhh surely not. Whole body? That’s mad to me. Offside before VAR was always any part of the body that can legally score a goal so it’s just the same now but with video replays….

nah i fully get it. current offside is fucking stupid. 1mm offside is offside. it’s impossible to be consistent and results in 5 minute VAR checks with arbitrary lines drawn on a shitty screen in the least scientific way possible

full body offside (again, daylight visible between attacker and defender) would be considerably easier to enforce

Cmon Spurs

Having seen a few offside already in this match, my idea of clear daylight between defender and attacker would be absolutely nuts. Super fun, but absolutely nuts

Made it to 70 minutes in the Arsenal/Newcastle game. Should be the only evidence the board needed that we should have signed a striker (Isak).

Hope Newcastle turn up in the same fashion vs Liverpool.

We won’t. We can’t beat Liverpool ever.

Sorry to say it but Spurs were absolute shite. I get there are injuries left and right but Ange mate looks lost on the sideline. Surely he will have to be replaced. Don’t see him being able to get this team back together

Did they even have a shot on target in the end?

Spurs have injuries but there’s no excuse for zero shots on target in a semi final. The squad is a bit shit but they have some good players here and there. Ange is just an awful stubborn manager - I hope they keep him for a long long time

Ange has bamboozled a lot of people by being a nice guy and doing well in his first 10 or so games.

He is a pretty dreadful manager whose stubbornness is costing his team. Not helped by injuries and how Levy runs the club, but Tottenham have looked completely rudderless pretty much all season.

When was the last good Tottenham manager? Redknapp?!!

nah what? they’ve had some great managers the club is just backwards

Spurs have massively unrealistic expectations and think because they’re a big London club they should be automatically competing at the top table.

Every spurs fan i talk to remembers the Poch years fondly but thinks the Mourinho, Conte and Nuno years were awful. if they (the fans) and the ownership had more patience with any of those 3 managers they would be in a much better position. look at what Nuno has gone on to do for example.

Levy is running the club as a business which is fine but football doesn’t seem to be the priority. someone phoned up talkspot earlier and said that their January signings were beyonce and the rolling stones and whilst its funny its also kind of true. their restaurant seems to be more important than getting the club going upwards

Lol at Beyonce and Rolling Stones.

I remember there was some talk about them getting Ten Hag and while he would undoubtedly be a Spursy solution I think he could get a decent tune out of them
