Egypt had an incredible chance to make it 3-2.
One simple pass would’ve put them in one on one.

Egypt have made an official complaint about the referee and demand an investigation. I watched the 12 minute BBC highlights and they’re just coming across as incredibly sore losers. Yes the foul on Lisandro Martinez was soft but technically it was a foul. We’ve all seen worse ones given for sure. Challenge on Salah in the box in the dying minutes was never a pen either. Basically they were 2-0 up with 11 mins to go and they didn’t close out the game. Thats on them.
Also……no footy on today. Wtf.

just after that Salah incident there was another incident. i think the fact that VAR didn’t even look at it is unfair. they invited the referee to review the Martinez incident, didn’t do that for either of the 2 Egypt tackles. if they had been outside the box would they have looked more closely?

Salah went over too easy and also intentionally put his leg up to increase possibility of the other player getting a scratch out of it too.

The length of VAR reviews for the respective incidents is jarring. Took an age to rule out the Egypt second goal, but hardly looked at the Salah one.
Either way, another crazy game. Switzerland vs Colombia was so shit!

After two late nights and amazing results for differing reasons (England, well because its England and the USA because of Trump). I thought I’d give Switzerland vs Colombia a miss, glad I did, Nile-Nile until pens does sound like paint drying just I didn’t realise there are no matches today, boo!

the problem with all of this is that FIFA now suddenly have zero legitimacy (not that they had loads before)
with the Trump/Balogan scandal you would easily believe that FIFA would rig matches like this to allow Argentina to win and hold down Egypt (with them being a Muslim nation in particular)
i bet if it wasn’t for the Balogan thing last week Egypt wouldn’t be shouting so loudly for those officials to be banned

It is surely irrelevant talking about whether the calls were soft or not. Everyone suffers bad calls. Making a formal complaint is not going to do anything and comes across as whining imo. England didn’t make a formal complaint after the hand of god match and that was so much worse. And that Lampard one when it was over the line by a mile. The age of VAR makes formal complaints seem really churlish imo
I want everyone to complain about everything after Trump and give FIFA a massive headache! Just in this World Cup mind.

I think there needs to be a new respect for Refs decisions, good or bad. His decision should be good for 99% of general decisions. Anything that deserves VAR can go to VAR.
I think Egypt’s goal should have stood. Yes it maybe was a foul for shirt pulling but the ref didn’t give it credence and it played on. That should be enough. It was before VAR.
