Yep - Fifa announced the sanction on Thursday, saying it was for serious foul play.
Such a strange thing for Fifa to do at this moment after Infantinoās bullshit. Itās like theyāre doubling down on the Balogun decision because they can. It was a red card but it was clearly accidental he got the ball and his studs rolled up the ball, it looks bad in slomo like they all do but was debatable that it was a straight red before VAR. Fucking bullshit. We will manage though.

Why they canāt see that in the review is beyond me. Should have been red for carelessness but wasnāt a straight up evil red. But their review suggests that there was more intent than the footage, to me, clearly shows.

To be honest, I had some (completely unfounded) suspicions at the last tournament. Messi winning in the Middle East was just too good a narrative/photo opp for FIFA.
Yeah. Eight time Ballon dāOr winner Messi bowing out of his last World Cup with the trophy one more time would help his legend and make a great fairytale ending to his career for FIFA.
