I deliberately went to sleep during extra time last night. First time I’ve ever done that during a game. Was awoken by the Spanish goal going in, went back to sleep and woke just as Trump and Infantino were walking onto the field. Went to bed the worst mixture of happy that Argentina lost and pissed off at FIFA, Trump and the whole match in general being one of the least entertaining I’ve ever seen. I didn’t even see the argie-bargie going on. I know finals are normally damp squibs but that was a special kind of terrible.
I’ll still miss there being football on terrestrial TV almost nightly! Fucking love the World Cup. My boy might be old enough to take interest in the next one and that’s got me buzzing.
I slept through most of it and watched extra time before getting out of bed this morning. I thought it was great but I missed the first 90 something minutes.
The stats were insane, completed passes, possession, shots on target etc. I loved the way all the stats were presented throughout the tournament, the momentum one was sick.
I really hope Argentina players read the online discourse about their performance/attitude/sportsmanship etc. they’re by far the most unpopular team of this world cup, even worse than Paraguay lol. Fully deserved - that kind of shenanigans is taught to them from the top too. The squad could do with learning something about the way they are seen.
The US doing the “love” stuff was disgusting, very few countries worldwide that less encapsulate that kind of hippie love moment that the US in recent years. “hate” would’ve more appropriate
The Company that did that is some Australian guy and their whole thing is about global poverty and defending the earth… while making money for themselves of course. FIFA chose them to partner with for the usual kickbacks etc.
From what is coming out, it seems the US government had fuck all to do with it, pretty much blindly signing bits off, which isn’t surprising.
I’m sure he’ll come good somewhere, but I’d have thought he’d be damaged goods to teams in the Prem by now. Needs to go somewhere like Fenerbahce or Red Star Belgrade for a few years to have a chance of rediscovering his mojo, but I doubt his ego will let him.
As it is, Prem sides are just like “I can fix him” and I just don’t think it’s going to work.
