Sajid Javid also has some shady history at DeutscheBank that he conveniently left in 2009.

Fun fact: The concept of neoliberalism was created in the 1930s by the ruling class, in order to further the power and wealth of the already rich. It was vastly different from the status quo at the time and was wildly unpopular amongst many ordinary people. So it was implemented largely under the radar using think tanks, members of government, media outlets etc planting the idea of the ‘free market’ as a natural order of humanity that would separate the worthy from the unworthy through accumulation of wealth. It was so aggressive and successful that after 20 years or so the name for it disappeared, and it became largely accepted as “the norm” with people unable to imagine that anything else had existed before it.

Humans are in fact NOT greedy and selfish by nature. That is something that is peddled by those who dominate society because 1) they are characteristics that those in power DO largely possess, and 2) because it benefits them to plant the idea that we should be pitted against each other to compete for the limited resources we have

Have you ever been around people?

Yes. In my experience if given the option most would not advocate for an economic system that prioritises private profit over human wellbeing, it’s just that the former is so well entrenched in society that they can’t picture any other way of the world working. Humans can act selfish and greedy because they’ve been persuaded they should and because the world they live in often forces them to in order to survive. They aren’t dominant human characteristics

I agree, human beings are not greedy or selfish by nature, but society can make some personality types act that way.

I was thinking more about how so many people put bags on seats on busy trains and don’t pick up dogshit :man_shrugging:

Yep, we are fucking rad when we can be, we’re taught to be Michael Fabricants and we’re doing well at it just lately. We as in humans.

I think we’re complicated.
I think we all have the inbuilt potential to be greedy and selfish bastards. But I think we also have an inbuilt potential to be kind and self-sacrificing in the right circumstances. The good stuff and the bad stuff live side by side in all of us and we can’t blame other people for putting it there,
What this is all leading to is I think there’s no political system or philosophy that will ever create a perfect world. We just have to do what we can,

One of those occasions where I can appreciate our absolutely mental voting system.

A nice picture of Nigel Farage’s bracelet to brighten everyone’s day.

TBF he’s been massively sidelined by the BBC over and over and over and over and over and over again.
