20mph in any built up area is fine. I’m sure there are places where it’s wrongly enforced but I generally don’t mind it.
50mph average speed checks on the other hand

I believe the idea behind it is to reduce the average speed. In a 20mph i think the average speed people go is something like 27mph where it’s more like the mid 30’s for 30mph.
I’d rather have speed limits which are just stuck to personally, I don’t have an issue sticking to them myself and therefore I’ve never got a ticket but this approach doesn’t seem very British.

Been stuck behind a ‘go slow’ protest on the M4. People driving 30mph down the motorway for miles and miles all driven by pure fat bald old man gammon.
It was actually funny how identikit they all were. Car after car of pathetic angry old men.

I have nothing to back this up apart from what I see with my own eyes when I walk my son to school, but I firmly think there’s a certain type who purposly go faster than they would even if it was a 30 to ‘protest’ the audicity of being made to slow down…a bit.

No way anyone does 30 through the village.
Kid was hit by a car a few months ago after school at the traffic lights. Literally one speed camera is all it needs.
I found the auto in mine just hunts between 1 and 2. Likely chucking more shitty emissions out too!

it’s really weird isn’t it. based on all the polls and the general feeling in the country it seems like Keir could do anything he wants - keep Diane Abbott despite her remarks last year, move closer to the EU, recognise Palestine etc etc
instead we get this weird “play it ultra safe” thing where he tries to attract opposition voters whilst pissing off labour voters
The thing is, a lot of Labour voters might be pissed off by Diane Abbott and the others being kicked out, but they’ll probably still vote Labour. But by looking tough on the ‘loony left’ Starmer will get Tory voters too. It’s the difference between just winning and securing a landslide.
