Just spotted this over at Slap.
Apparently a skater named Seng who moderated a 90s era skate thing on FB has been caught by ICE and is getting deported despite having lived in the US for a couple decades. He has a daughter who has US citizenship.
If anyone wants to help donate to his legal fees click the link.
Good luck to him and his family. It sounds horrific and there is not much you can do once theyâve got you, from what Iâve seen reported, once youâre deported (without due process) you are no longer in the American legal system and have no right to appeal. Youâre gone, gone and probably to a horror super jail in El Salvador. Many innocent people with legit papers have already been âdisappearedâ with no chance of getting them back.
Fuck Trump and straight up Gestapo snatching people!
Dont want to divert from the aforementioned cause above, but judging by the political climate in the US right now I canât imagine itâs the best time to go street skating risking a bust by police. I can only imagine there are âsponsoredâ or wannaget sponsored skaters travelling there from foreign countries with typical skate industry hand shake contracts and dubious visa status. Imagine getting busted for doing an ollie and ending up deported to el salvador?!
Denied as in not allowed to enter the US territory at the airport or not able to get the ESTA thing (or whatever itâs called now) approved before even flying there?
The US government requests social media handles from visa applicants and some visa-free travelers (under the Visa Waiver Program). This information is then used to review public posts, group memberships, and interactions on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and others.
Been doing the phone and social media checks for a while I think. I have a mate whoâs an artist over here and dating a girl in New York. Goes back and forth as much as he is allowed to. I saw him last week and he mentioned that he has had his phone checked to see if heâs making social media posts about work in the States. I donât think itâs just in the US that happens either.
I might go to SF in August. I donât think I have any compromising hard posts in my Instagram but I sure did post stories about Trump, Musk and those guys. Should I worry about that? What if I delete all my texts and PMs, would that be enough? Damn. What a world we live in.
