Gifted Hater

Watched this a couple of days ago on Patreon and really enjoyed it. Agreed with basically 95% of it all. However, I feel like lumping Reynolds in with the other four fame hungry sellouts is a little disrespectful.

Joa is so good, I kinda get the Reynolds point.

Apex wokeness from Nike hahaha.

I need to actually go on the Patreon more and communicate, been a minute. Everyone talking about the Tyshawn bench ollie video on there was jokes.

Watched a bit, it’s like he almost gets it everytime then misses the point. The question is not why is the old guard ruining skateboarding but why do the new younger skateboarders have less appeal?
He sort of addresses it before returning to making easy jokes about the oldies.
It’s hard for younger skaters to have things like a back catalogue when your footage lives on instagram for an hour and is then forgotten by the next deluge of footage that will be hot for an hour. The whole state of skateboarding is fucking over the next generation for themselves as they buy into it and feed the tricks for likes counter, reducing their skating to throw away forgetfulness, not old man Hawk. Even old hacks like a rad song making a mediocre part great can’t even used today, it’s like shite music is making great parts awful.

Skateboarding seems all about individualism now in a sea of replaceable individuals. Being part of a team with limited footage and exposure just used to work better.
There are many more reasons why is he is looking in the wrong direction on this but I can’t be arsed.

Also the Janoski was actually more of a risk at the time of it’s release than it would be now.

So he thinks everything sucks? This has always been the mantra of skateboarding way before GH…

This is a big thing for me but also it’s a state of where music is right now, a reflection of taste and how people’s taste are easily swayed by trends. I’m not saying that music is worse now, that’s a different subject but I will say that there are too many people making music that shouldn’t be. Music trends and genres nowadays are all about shortcuts and it’s so easy to make now which makes swathes of weak music flooding the waves in all levels and genres. Quality is lost and hard to find but it’s all there and as strong as ever.

Not wanting to defend Gino too much as he has done the bare minimum for 15 years, but, can’t really blame a 50 year old who is still marketable for doing basic tricks when there’s 23 year old pros out there doing ride on grinds and refusing to jump down anything larger than a 5 stair

Which of those 23 year olds get a pro shoe on asics though

Great pod with decent research. Seeing Tim Poo get a kicking is always fantastic.
