Out for an hour and a half tonight. Had the park to myself for the last 30 minutes after one of the young lads I see about wrecked himself on a 270 lip and went home.
Nothing new although did see about getting into back tails and that was a quick ‘nope’. Decided to work on a consistent back 5-0 first as a confidence builder. Need a dry curb really. And my front tails just arent happening so wtf am I actually thinking anyway
Don’t scoop your ollie. Ollie and once you’re higher than the curb or ledge, rotate. This will make locking in easier and more efficient. Oh and keep your shoulders parallel to the ledge, it’s all in the hips. Have all your weight on your back foot and over the ledge too.
It’s the backside rotation I can’t get into my head despite now having a solid back 180. Hard trick nonetheless, and likely I really need to put back 5050’s waaay more into my sessions than I do for the parallel shoulder thing. Main thing is I made the effort and tried a couple
And no matter what I do, it’ll never look good as a Carroll one
Doing a backtail is not like doing a back 180 at all. See it as doing a backside 5-0 with your upper body but twist your hips for the backtail, if that makes sense. Work on them, they feel reeeeeeally good.
Pretend you’re a He-Man toy and swivel those hips while keeping the torso the same. ollie, swivel and jab that tail onto the ledge. This technique will give you short slides to start with.
How people do them at speed with insane amounts of wax is crazy scary.
Also approach super close to the ledge. Like really close. And get loosey goosey. You want to be popping over the ledge and placing yourself on it, not popping your back leg directly on the fucker IMO. If you do that you’ll leave your board behind. Much easier with loose AF trucks as well.
Had a quick roll around this morning before work. Got a fakie ollie to switch front crook. Bit slow and sketchy but I’ll take it. Not done one of them in about 20 years.
Whilst its dry been skating the local curb spot after work me and my mate first good session, then a few more people came out the next day then finished early at work so did a quick 40 minutes this evening…that’s my last 3 days.
Right? Lots of little hand-finished bits, so it does feel quite DIY. The quarter at the end is surprisingly whippy, and the little ledge almost cropped out on the left hand edge is a lot of fun!
