Gone Skateboarding?

I’ve never known my wheelbase length in 35 years of skating lol.

Same here - I just got excited that I might be able to improve / cling on to one of the tricks I can still do.

I’ve been on a 14 inch wheelbase for a while now. I find it makes stuff easier but mainly do flippy tech bollocks anyway.

They do seem to be more difficult to find DLX do some in my size ( 8 or 8.06 ) FA do them and right now Im riding a GX1000

Welcome also just released a load of 14” wheelbase decks in various sizes

I respect this.

Makes me think of Cypher when he’s eating the steak in The Matrix haha

Where do welcome get their wood?

The shorter the better when it comes to flatground and manuals.

Yes mate I know but I haven’t tried this shape yet as I don’t now if I wanna skate it with 144s or 149s which is doing my head in plus I’ve been on 149s and nothing else for quite a while now, kinda scared of sizing down. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Magenta have lovely shaped 8.4 and 8.5 decks with 14 inch wheelbases on BBS wood in their Spring 2025 drop, hopefully I’ll get some of those.

22 years here and I don’t ever intend on starting

I rode a 139’s on an 8.28” with no issue but you could get away with a 149. Depends upon how nuts you want to go haha

This skateshop in Melbourne has most decks categorised under their wheelbases as well as widths, which makes for some interesting browsing if you’re curious about which companies do what.

We’re all deep into equipment thread territory here haha. Might update that thread…

FWIW - skated a couple of times this week. Tuesday night towards the end I grabbed the old shop bench and ollied it from a flat bank. Bench is c17” high and I got a lot higher - certainly my hip height as I’m a short arse. Landing was a bussup special but I’ll take it and go back for a clean one at some point.

Last night was cool, skated with a lad from Telford who I’d not met before and had a laugh.

Between the deck, truck axles and ledge angle iron my ankles and shins have taken a beating recently. I’ll likely skate tomorrow night, then rest until next weekend. One of my back teeth is being pulled out Tuesday, so no skating Tuesday night.

Shop name checks out for sure

I’ve been thinking about this for ages. I’ve skated every size between 7.5 and 8.75 apart from 8.25 and 8.625. I skated loads of 8.125s on 144s and loads of 8.375s on 149s. Now I just don’t know which trucks I’d need on a 8.28. 144s would make flatground easier but 149s are comfier for grinding ledges and coping. The more I think about it, the trickier it gets. D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-DAMN.

I usually just aim for the edges of my wheels to line up with the edges in my board. This generally means that the tips of my axles are 1/8” wider on each side, which means choosing trucks with axles up to 1/4” wider than the deck. So I ride 149s on an 8.25

Thats how I set up my daughters - 8" low V-Hollow Venture trucks on a 7.75" short deck, 52mm Radials. Really stable.

Back on topic - My wife took my daughter skating this morning on a session that is quite free but with staff on hand to help the kids learn new stuff if they want to. My daughter really enjoyed it without me

Really glad shes stoked on it again but a bit sad in a way that shes taking her own path so to speak. Apparently practicing her ollies and tail stalls after skating around a bit.

I’m out tonight then thats it until next Friday as I’m having a molar tooth extracted late Tuesday afternoon and am shitting my pants.

Yep never even looked. Just buy some ventures or Indys.
The only thing I’ve looked at is board size and wheel size.
Not even looked at concave etc.
