no, I got my first kit about 18 months ago, might even be longer.
Motorbike/Red convertable/blonde floozy/sudden desire to go clubbing? probably
Drumkit? Anger management and bloody good exercise
I’m seriously considering hiring a little town hall for the night, getting a load of beers in and ordering a pizza and making a right fucking racket with a couple of mates. Its basically going to be the same amount as you’d spend out at a restaurant or a bar right?
We can kick the forum band off
This is a thing. Our parish hall up the road holds 100 people easy and you can hire it for £10 an hour. People rent it out for all sorts.
I got an old 70s Peavey Bass amp that I’ve been meaning to try out properly so want to bring that and go to town.
Oh I’m in, I’ve always wanted to do that but never actually did it.
Can I wear spandex?
Anyone interested in a vintage Kay bass? Before I stick it on ebay. Needs a bit of work, jack crackles a bit and needs knobs but it’s basically sound. Would have to be collection from south London. More pics on request. Could be a bargain if you have the inclination to fix it up
Oh, I would have but can’t collect, soz.
What else would you wear?
Just got an email back from the hall. £14.50 per hour totally going to do it.
Guitars for sale
'69 Yamaha FG-160-1:
Lovely guitar, gets a bit buzzy high up, but nothing a guitar tech cand fix. I’d love to keep this one but can’t.
2015 Epiphone Dot Studio:
Both with soft case and stand. Open to offers, need rid.
Hopefully this is allowed…
We’ve got hold of a pretty bog standard Yamaha acoustic with a few chips on the side of the neck. Is this worth filling?
Wont affect the structure or strength of the neck so Id only fill it if it feels annoying when you play it. @KeithBeef
Wood glue and sawdust, overfill then sand back gently would be the easiest quickest route
alright i need to geek out about audio interfaces. any of you gone ampless? (or still own an amp and just use their computer anyway?)
i’m considering getting an audio interface and a neural dsp archetype and have many questions
in the box guitar sounds are wank in my opinion, mainly because they sound too ‘there’ if that makes any sense?
I still use my amp for live stuff but been using a kemper for recording. And I know, it’s essentially the same thing as i’m saying is wank (kinda) but it does feel tactile and responds to playing, feel and expression more like an amp than a static effect in the box. And I can run the kemper through the console and pre’s to give it that recorded sound.
I only ever use ‘recorded’ sound, never anything that’s already in the DAW. I just can’t get on with the sterileness.
You could run pedals striaght into an interface?
wait wait. what bit are you referring to with “in the box”?
kemper is like a quad cortex right? a full profiler with tons of options and amp settings you can download etc?
‘In the box’ just means software on the computer. DAW presets, plugins etc.
Kemper is weird magic. Yes it’s modelling essentially but amp profiling is all a bit voodoo.
There is a huge kemper community sharing profiles of any setup imaginable. Fully editable profiles with amp, mic, cab and fx. You can pretty much own amy amp setup you can think of if someone in the world has profiled it. And he’s the even weirder bit (coming from a valve amp lover) it sounds amazing, even incredible depends on the profiler.
a lot of the guitar youtuber geezers seem to use the kemper thing but then it costs like a grand and a half
annoyingly it’s hard to test the “in the box” rig setup. like i could download some free trials of stuff but i’d still need to buy an audio interface to even try them
Yeah.
It’s just one of those things. You could take a punt be completely happy with the results and not know any better or it could miss the mark and you crave for something else to obtain what you have in your head.
I’ve had years of searching for way to create what is in my head and I have to resign to the unobtainable and making do having fun with workarounds.
I know it’s hard but try and figure out what you want to do or what you want as an end goal and just research as much as poss so you get the closest thing to what you need straight away, saves so many steps of impulse/buyers remorse/reselling debacles.
i think the likely setup i’d go for would be something like an NI Komplete Audio 6 or Focusrite Scarlet 2i4 as an audio interface and then the Gojira Neural DSP Archetype
with some black friday sales i reckon i could do all that for a couple of hundred. then if i hate it hopefully i can just sell the interface on ebay
i’ve been trawling reddit for days and there’s so much conflicting or mixed opinions on all of it
