Use the Squier serial number checker.
It’s cool. Tells you how to read the numbers but gives you the details too.
My LP stayed in tune pretty well considering it is on fresh strings.
My tuner fix and nut replacement has probably helped loads too.
Watched a video about action height to see if I could find the sweet spot in setup terms, I’m almost bang on with what I saw as the recommendation.
That’s me. Yeah it’s not a million miles away. I love mine, got it used for 80 quid.
Lovely sound, really high action though. I’m a bit of a jazzy bummer so it does the job for that, but not very versatile. Great for thick jazzy/bluesy tones at the neck pickup or for crunch or twang at the bridge, but nothing much in-between.
Is the action high because that’s how they are or is it just not set up properly?
I dunno, in fairness I play with pretty heavy strings so if it was much lower it would probably buzz like mad.
I have seen posts where others have complained about it though.
I’ve been pissing around in my “studio” and playing with the acoustic and more recently since finishing it, the LP.
Got this far with tinkering.
It’s only a sketch.
The string buzz is me playing badly but I like its character.
I have previously posted an earlier version of it but not sure if anybody bothered to listen.
So, the G&L was an F100.
The guy behind the Hohner was Alan Entwistle.
Getting a guitar to play nice is the best thing you can do and it’s not rocket science. I used to think that making guitars was an art and scary but it’s really not, anyone can do it. There are actually few rules, anything goes. I recommend anyone to have a go. perfect time to try.

There you go, not a mexican one then unfortunately
Nice one, well played. What did you make it on?
This is my surf type tune, did it as a test run for the 8 track I got
Recorded into Studio One via Focusrite 2i2.
Drums tapped out on an MPC linked to Addictive Drums.
Some use of THU Overloud for guitar rigs
What kind of size action do you guys go with?
Its way higher than what im used to on this new strat but its not something ive ever played with too much before.
As low as possible with no fret buzz. Lower the bridge saddles making sure you follow the fretboard radius by lowering the outer strings further, you’ll see when you look down the body through the fretbboard. This will also show you how straight the neck is. It should be straight but can change in transit on new guitars. If nexk is straight then it’s all down to how well the fret job has been done. play every note up the fretboard and see if any buzz, if so then the next fret along is too prominent. You can sand these down if you want but I doubt you’ll need to, just raise the bridge saddles bit by bit until all fret buzzes are gone. You should be able to get it a bit lower than it’s basic factory setup without getting any buzzes.
For a strat setup I followed this guy’s videos.
Cheers boiz, I know its more to do with personal reference but its just something I’ve not done before. Just taken voluntary furlough at work so gonna have some time to play over the next few weeks
Just had the kids messing on all the guitars so it’s the first time all the hangers are filled. Bass guit not here and a couple of working progresses are in the loft but these are the ones I use.
Is that a proper cigar box guitar I see there?
Nice rack by the way.
That PRS is well sexy.
What Moog is that? I was playing with one in Covent Garden a few weeks ago. Was so much fun.
is the PRS one of those ones from reclaimed brazilian rainforest wood or something?
