i thought an acid drop was when you run along and throw the board under your feet in midair. surely this is just dropping off an edge?

An acid drop is rolling off something. Duane Peters used to do them into some pool and he named it.
Holding your board and jumping onto it shouldn’t even have a name.

I believe the ‘move’ you’re describing is a ‘Bomb Drop’. But I could also be wrong.

A bomb drop was always on the lip, holding the tail, back foot on the platform front foot on your board. Nose pointing into the ramp like some kind of ‘bomb’ about to ‘drop’ or something.
Lean in, let go, jump on and off you go.
