They must be Autechre fans. I like it, My missus wouldnât allow our youngest to be called âtt1pdâ or âelyc6 onsetâ
So it looks like weâll be able to exercise more and sit in a park with out friends (2m apart) from Monday. But âlockdownâ will still technically be in place. More confusing messaging from the government. Chances of a second wave?
I suppose it seems likely given how many times theyâre saying in the press that the lockdown will be eased. It didnât work for Germany initially but theyâve generally coped much better and probably had a stricter lockdown anyway.
Iâd feel more confident if the number of deaths were as low as theyâve got now in Spain and Italy, hopefully weâll there in a month or so, seems early now though.
Why not ease the lockdown? Weâre second at the moment in terms of deaths so we may as well push for the win now.
Trump is just right out there at the moment, no sugar coating it, he is happy for people to die in order for the economy to recover
His problem is that itâs not a simple choice. If you release lockdown too soon then the economy will suffer more than if you stayed the course. But people like him and people who vote for people like him just want simple choices. Any time someone tries to make a nuanced argument they believe that person must be trying to bamboozle them and they get frustrated, angry and dismissive. Theyâre basically children.
I genuinely believe that he doesnât care. He wants and needs this to go away as soon as possible because itâs hurting his presidency as much as itâs hurting the US economy
Is all the Monday hype really a good idea? Iâm sure a lot of people will just take it as itâs over, back to normal. 2nd wave?
itâll be 24 hours before the front pages are outrage at parks filled to the brim with people sitting together
The one thing it would represent would be a big change politically from âwe wonât risk a second waveâ, I guess theyâll have to justify it but even that could be hard with the number of deaths still quite high and testing targets not being met.
Canât stop thinking about this tweet, especially form someone who knows all about spin. Have been trying to get my head around the comparison of deathâs between countries.
What sources do you guys have for accurate insights? A lot of news websites go round in circles, telling me that the death stats cannot be compared directly, but then not really giving a clear reason why.
The Channel 4 Fact Check website, seems to say it is an issue of other countries possibly underreporting deaths?
Interestingly from David Spiegelhalter:
Whether we did the very worst or were merely one of the worst does not matter at all. The fact is that most countries did a lot better and when it all comes out in the wash itâll be evident that they didnât do enough soon enough and a lot more people died as a result.
tbh i think the speed/extend of the lockdown inquiries are going to pale in comparison to the old peopleâs homes stuff
âprotect the NHSâ has seems to have left the government utterly blind to the plight of the most vulnerable. virus-positive elderly being sent back to homes whilst possibly still contagious in order to free up space in hospitals etc etc etc
Not only that, there will doubtless at some point be a pretty big story about patients acquiring it in hospitals as well.
oh yeah 1000%
The whole clap for Boris thing was baffling. Heâs not some sort of Churchillian figure, guiding the country out of a national disaster. I think the nationalistic fervour around Brexit has bled into this Covid situation. Iâm thinking of deactivating my Facebook account, all the St. Georgeâs day, approval for Boris and Vera Lynn bollocks is doing my head in.
The Tories absolutely hate the whole thing, it goes so far against the grain for them. A problem for which the only solution involves collectivism. Comments of the 1922 committee are what they really think. Saying that people are âa little too willingâ to stay at home.
