Anyone give me the cliffs from the briefing?
We could be at 200 deaths a day by November if we do nothing now. Briefing was mainly about reinforcing existing measures like social distancing, mask wearing etc. But the two scientists were pretty stark in their assessments.
Chris Witty from todayâs briefing: âA lot of people say âWell canât people be allowed to take their own risk?â The problem with a pandemic or an epidemic infection like this is that if I as an individual increase my risk, I increase the risk to everyone around me and then everyone who is a contact of theirs. And sooner or later the chain will meet people who are vulnerable or elderly or have a long-term problem from Covid. So you cannot in an epidemic just take your own risk. Unfortunately youâre taking a risk on behalf of everybody else. Itâs important that we see this as something we have to do collectively.â
Seems very sensible of Witty to say that.
Itâs a shame there are so many dicks who donât like being told what to do.
Making sure he leaves a solid, unambiguous âtold you soâ before he goesâŚ?
To be honest, I wouldnât blame either him or Vallance leaving at this point. They both have been caught up in political manoeuvres (like the Cummings affair) that neither were comfortable with and, tragically, their advice is never acted on quickly enough by government.
He always goes missing when shit is hitting the fan. What was the last one? Off camping when exam results came out?
âIf we had are country back we wouldnât have none ov this foreign diseaseâ, probably.
What an utter fucking mess.
We had a pretty blunt email from one of our more senior managers the other day to be aware when planning Kent and London-bound loads as âOperation Stack is now back in effect for the foreseeable futureâ
are indoor skateparks open?
Yes
Like wayout said. Iâve just booked a session at one (you have to book online, you canât just turn up, Iâm guessing itâs the same for all parks?).
Wife just sent me a picture of an empty toilet roll shelf where she has gone shopping.
Stupid.
Fucks sake, here we go again. I hope they donât start covering the panic buying dickheads in the press again thereby guaranteeing itâll be ten times worse.
been to a bunch of supermarkets recently and every thing was fine. i actually had a look down the pasta, toilet paper and kitchen wipe aisles out of morbid curiosity. so far, so good
I saw half empty shelves in the bog roll aisle when I was shopping, so I think itâs casual panic buying for now.
Looking forward to when all the bog roll lorries are in 60 mile tailbacks for Brexit.
I need to see that in meme form.
