Just hope that it doesn’t cause people to slow down on moving to renewables if they think this is round the corner. Because it’s years and years away.
I hope that too for the sake of the planet but also because there always is probability for breakdowns and we need clean back up .
But us human , we love short cuts .
I mean if I had invented the magic pill or memory implant to make us skate just like our favourite skater , how many of you would take it ? Or spend years more getting no where near?

I’m not sure that many people are feeling anger towards striking nurses etc. like the government and Daily Mail are hoping for. I don’t know, perhaps its unfounded optimism but it feels to me like the tide is finally on the turn.

Kind of combining what @darthpunk posted and the mentions of the Daily Mail, etc. it can be easy sometimes to forget what a significant percentage of the population are like.
The fabricants saying that sort of thing, (Re. Daily Mail comments), don’t really have a clue what they’re saying. They think they do, but they are thick as planks with no knowledge or experience of what they’re talking about. I imagine they’d be saying something similar about those poor kids in Solihull that fell through the ice had they been asylum seekers/ refugees.
These people have no grasp whatsoever of what a war zone is like, what it is like to fear for one’s life, what it’s like to be in peril at sea or even how cold the sea is at this time of year.
It’s so easy to forget about the proportion of the population that is ignorant, uninformed and unintelligent. Couple that with their unwillingness to actually engage with factual material and think about things in any depth and/or accept that things are complex and nuanced. They like cut and dried, black and white, right and wrong - it’s easier for them. This is especially true if you don’t really ever interact with them. I know I rarely do.
Having said that, I had the misfortune to meet ‘the man in the street’ last week and it was a stark reminder of the fact that there are some absolute twats on this planet.
I went for a couple mile swim and got out to sit and enjoy the (almost) deserted beach. There was one guy on the beach and he wandered up to me. I thought, get ready for the Wim Hof conversation that I never want to have. I had a neoprene headband on so was a tad deaf. He said ‘ you haven’t come across the channel, have you?’, haha.
I said, ‘ no just from the bay round there’ , pointing.
‘ Ah, good, cos I thought you might be one of them n*g nogs’. Haha.
I thought wtf? I must have misheard him. He went on, ‘ You’ve come from round there? What are those diggers an’ that doin’?’
I tried explaining that it was work to prevent coastal erosion and protect the wildlife and habitat on and behind the shoreline. He just went glassy eyed as I was speaking to him.
He said, ‘yeah, they’re just killin’ all the animals doin’ that aren’t they?’, ‘waste of taxpayers money’ and ‘they better put steps in and a path and a car park cos that’s the best bit round there’. Followed by, ‘ It’ll all be underwater in a year or two anyway cos that global warmin’ an that’ . I don’t know why they’re bothering’’.
I’m kind of scratching my head by this point thinking. I wish this dude would fuck off and leave me to enjoy the beach in peace.
I thought I’d change the subject, ‘ beautiful out there today’ I said pointing out to sea, ‘it’s like a mill pond, mirror smooth’.
‘Yeah, and it’s the warmest time of the year for the sea innit’, says he. Fully ignoring the fact that I’m wearing a wetsuit, gloves, headband and socks and carrying swim fins.
‘No. No it isn’t. It’s not the coldest, that’d be around February. I mean it still took me a quarter mile to fully acclimatise to the cold’. Says I.
Glassy eyed , vacant expression from matey.
‘Oh, I think you’ll find it is the warmest time for it’ he went on to say, ‘ it’s warm and flat, which is good for you but not good for us’.
‘How d’you work that out?’ - me.
‘Well, those fackin’ migrants will be all over it won’t they?’ ‘We don’t want them here, do we?’ ‘They’re not welcome are they?’ ‘Only come here cos it’s nicer than the shitholes they come from,eh’. Haha.
That’s it, I’m like, ‘I’ve not seen you here before, are you visiting?’.
He replied, ‘ Yeah, I’m from Croydon, I want to move ere, but the missus won’t av it’.
‘Yeah, it’s nicer down here than that shithole, Croydon, eh. Just to let you know, we don’t want you here. Your lot aren’t welcome. Why don’t you fuck off back to where you came from?’
Promptly wandered back in to the sea, slipped my fins on and struck off in the direction I’d come from. Leaving that prick on the beach.
I was really screwing about it for a good half of the swim back and, by the time I’d got back, I was experiencing a mixture of being completely dumbfounded by him and surprised that I’d somehow forgotten that Joe Public can be a complete dick. I mean I know it, just it’s a real wake up call when it’s right there in your face.
That guy’s certainty that he was right, informed and just, in combination with his actual lack of real world knowledge, inability to understand things and his total disregard for facts when they were presented to him can be a very dangerous thing. Not so bad if there was just one of him, but unfortunately for the rest of us I fear that there are loads of them. Thanks Facebook, tabloids and bloke down the pub, (amongst other things).
Sorry for the mad ramble, but I’ve not spoken to anyone about that encounter, (bar my wife), and it seemed pertinent.

There are so many of those people , they’re miserable, probably had a shit hand in life whilst being surrounded by more miserable kind . They all need someone or something to blame ….the sun, daily fail and farage happy to be their pied piper .
It’s absolutely shit , but be glad you’re not them and got their fucking miserable existence to live with .

My boss is exactly like that, at least once a week, if somebody mentions electricity prices or a doctors appointment or anything like that he will pipe up and say “but the irony is if you come over the Chanel in a dingy you’re put up in a 5 star hotel and go right to the front of the queue”

Big time, theoretically I’m not unemployed until Jan 6th, but I couldn’t give a fuck about people who come here and work and do well for themselves.
I moved to Spain and made money there.

Appreciate it is far more complex than the above.
I believe no one is naturally born a racist - it is acquired through various means, experience, learnt or through external influence. At the moment its the ‘invaders’ that the likes of Braverman want people to focus on. 20 years ago it was ‘benefit scroungers’, single mums and the like, via the whole ‘Poverty Porn’ reality TV thing (was one called Skint?).
Oddly enough we’re now enough years in where specific parts of the media can fuck off both sides of the coin and set us all against each other, whilst sitting back and making all of our lives more miserable. Dunno, had a few beers but I personally feel shouting and screaming at poorly educated and misled people with nothing to lose isn’t the answer.
And I don’t know what the answer is
