In the news thread

had this discussion the other day

in the next GE if the Tories ran on a platform of reversing Brexit (and somehow were legally bound to follow through) and Labour opposed it (ie. would continue with Brexit), would you vote Tory?

I’d not vote Tory because they’ve shown themselves to be incompetent so whatever they promise I’m not giving them the chance again.

Not that I’ve ever voted for them.

i fully realise its a stupid question because there’s no way they’d ever back up something like that but its interesting

at this point i feel the trade and free movement stuff will permanently fuck our country and reversal is the only way out. i’d probably vote for anything that genuinely could provide it

Yeah but we know how tories prey on selfishness, throw a major carrot out like that and people may be quick to overlook their horrendous policies and corruption as long as they get childcare to ease up their lives for a few years and save a tonne of money too .

Ā£600 a fucking month for two years basically. Lividz

Tories pledging to reverse brexit would be political suicide. Brexit is like the softest issue that their membership base believes in, look at all the shit they’re currently doing to try and pander to them.

Couldn’t vote for them even in some alternate reality where that’s what they were offering. They would finish off the NHS and generally continue to destroy what’s left of our public services. There will soon be nothing left and no hope for anyone who isn’t already rich. So no, set against that the singular carrot of re-joining the EU would not be nearly enough to pass up the once in a generation chance for some respite from these despicable fuckers.

Childcare thing is going to save me over 1k per month with 2 kids in nursery.

Wouldn’t vote Tory ever.

Yeah whether we’re in the EU or out of the EU is pretty irrelevant if it’s still the Tories that get to spend our taxes.

As well as all that, they’re getting the words ā€˜free childcare’ in the headlines but what happens when they turn 3 now is you get up to 30 hours.

Kids are in way longer than that so you pay for those extra sessions. I think it also works out where you have to pay full whack one of the months.

The nurseries add on a ton of charges you didn’t get before as extras when they qualify.

Basically when my son turned 3 his bill went from about Ā£1k a month to about Ā£500 (he’s in 4 days a week not 5).

We pay 80% of that so its way, way better than when he was in at full price but people will get suckered in with ā€˜free childcare’ when the reality is childcare is a still a huge chunk of money a month.

Hmm, not sure on that one.

That sounds utterly shit, sorry to hear that. We initially ploughed through but my Mrs was working full time and travelling a lot with work.

Just before the 30 free hours came in via the trial we were paying £1400pcm childcare and our children were often in from 08:00 until 18:00.

Spent a lot of time thinking we were utterly crap parents putting career first and so on, so it did put a little strain onto us. In the end my Mrs took a bit of a step back, reduced her hours etc as my sons ā€˜behaviour’ deteriorated.

Obviously the government have consulted nursery’s about this haven’t they? I remember our nursery grumbling about the payment for the ā€˜free’ hours was less than what we paid the nursery per hour.

I had the same kind of situation but luckily my wife hated teaching. I didn’t exactly feel like I was getting a sweet deal being ā€˜allowed’ to continue working like mad, but when you consider where we are today compared to then it was obviously worth it.

I think it would have been very hard for us if she felt the same way your wife does. I’ve also taken a bit of a step back from work now and can offer a bit more support my wife in her new post-little kids career.

I don’t know anything about your situation but I hope that retiring and refocusing helps you get to a better place overall! Feelings can change on both sides when you see things from a new perspective.

That’s brutal. Sounds like you both made best decision with the information you had at the time and she probably understood consequences of it in long run but it still ends up to shit. Sorry to hear about that barf

I’ll believe it when he’s in cuffs. Can someone run for president if they’ve been convicted?

I don’t believe so.

If he gets charged it’ll be all he bangs on about to his MAGA dickheads

He’s already said if anything happens people should protest. To anyone normal that’s fine but to his merry band of dribbling idiots that’s an incitement to violence
