So many mass killings in Texas right now I’m losing track of which is which

I’m unsure of which particular item makes Texas quite so mad - the ridiculous size of it, the population size, the fake Christians, the guns, the confederate past or really just a huge mix of all of that

Edit - apparently it’s the 10th least educated state which is probably up there as one of the biggest reasons

I saw this very well-informed essay linked on Slap as well.

Depressing stuff.

I definitely felt like I was added to some kind of watch list after catching up on street league on Rumble

Just like TikTok, no way am I opening Rumble on my phone.

Someone should organise a SLS boycott. Get the skaters to withdraw. Push skaters not to watch. Try and hit Thrill One where it hurts.

Money and glory talks so asking contest/Olympic skaters to boycott SLS …. Good luck with that .

i feel like there’s been a few large divides in skating for years anyway. the whole berrics/SLS/dew tour/olympics crowd and everyone else

i bet there’s thousands of Americans who don’t really skate who would happily spend a lot of money to see live contests but couldn’t name you a skater from outside the contest circuits

But I don’t think SLS, in its current format, carries any Olympic qualifying points. If the bad PR from competing outweighs the prize purse, contest skaters might be convinced.

Skateboarding - possibly the most inclusive, forward thinking sport in the world

Right wing fuck nuggets - say, let’s get in on that

No connection apart from all the same skaters . I just have my doubts that it will come to anything as they’d have screamed and shouted already. Something major needs to happen with the rumble owners to make skaters pull out of SLS . Guaranteed no carriuma skaters will boycott it , more chance of winning

Yeah, if anyone does drop out, the middle of the road chancers will go for it.

Was Münster in the 90s(?) the only mass boycott by pro skaters? Shitty course, that hadn’t been changed in years and over zealous security stopping pros from practicing.

Jagger Eaton’s silence is deafening.

Perhaps this is part of the reason why SLS is handpicking the pros who compete? They don’t want any bad publicity. Might explain why only 6 female skaters competed - feel like someone like Alexis would say something (although I don’t think Alexis has entered a comp since the Olympics).

I think she said on Jenkem recently that was only doing comps to make money, and now she has other sources of income she doesn’t need to do them.

ā€œ What portion of your income is contingent on contest money?
I mean, none now. It used to be 100% and that’s why I had to do contests because sponsors weren’t paying girls to skate. For years it was just one X Games each year where I would hurl myself to try and make a year’s living in one day. If it didn’t work, I was trying to figure out student loans and what else to do.

By the time the Olympics came around, or in the year leading up to it, it was the first time I didn’t need to do this contest thing. I was doing it, I guess, just because I wanted to. At that point it had been ten years of doing contests because I needed to, and then in some strange way that worked. Then I was in a position where I could maybe be in the Olympics if I wanted to. It just felt stupid to not try. Now I can say that I don’t need contests, but I don’t know how many other girl skaters that’s true for.

I couldn’t trust skateboarding to make a living for so long. Even now it’s like, I don’t know if this salary is forever. So I think that’s why I take on so many projects and keep myself busy and stressed. And it’s not just for money, obviously, because all the things I happen to be doing are things that I’m really passionate about or really into. I think it’s also that I don’t trust any one thing to support me.ā€
