Yeah but what’s a privileged area? I mean you can have poverty everywhere, is it possible that he was talking about poverty in areas that have been overlooked by scorecard allocation of funding?

I mean obviously he’s trying to win votes in his heartland, so he probably talking shit but it might not be quite as comedy villain as it sounds

Fishy Rishi :eyes:

Ah ok was he talking about rural vs urban poverty? I am not sure from that article.

Comedy villain? Boris is just a proper geezer innit too? When have the tories ever done anything for the underprivileged in cities or the countryside?

Right to buy was the only one I can think of. Benefited my family anyway. But I do take your point I just feel like Rishi had the potential to be a bit of a Tony Blair arbiter of left and right but blew it.

You’re too nice haha

All the time while he was pushing for the harshest possible Brexit, Jacob Rees-Mogg set up a company, HQ’d in Dublin, both to advise on and profit from consulting to companies on how to do business in the EU.

One thing to bear in mind is that with so many companies having brassplate companies located here in Dublin for the generous tax breaks, all that has done has over-inflate GDP to wildly exaggerated and unrealistic levels. All the big tech companies and investment firms hoard the cash, but the city and general population sees little direct financial benefit. It’s third world infrastructure, systems and economy with a first world bank balance.

I vaguely remember the adverts….

HAVE YOU GOT THE RIGHT?

Yeah this was what my Nan said, she was in her house for years and got the chance to buy it for around £6k (which she didn’t have). My Dad had three brothers, two of them clubbed together with him to buy her house even though she didn’t really want to because ‘The young families won’t have anywhere like I did’.

Yeah greed, yeah Tory values, but it helped three families get their own houses who wouldn’t have otherwise so from my perspective, and in my family, it helped.

*Sadly the fourth brother was a drugged up loser and felt so aggrieved by being cut out of the deal that he stole my Nan’s life savings. My mum, dad and one of the other brothers went to confront him and he called the police on my mother when she tried to grab him. She got charged with assault! Ended the relationship, none of the brothers have seen him since. My uncle almost bottled someone at my Nan’s funeral cos he thought it was him. The loser brother was the only one of the four who voted Tory and used to rack up debt and sell stuff other people owned. A proper rat. The rest of them all Labour, all working class, all cautious savers.

So I know there’s a stereotype of the Tory selfish bastard that is partly true, I’ve got one in the family!

What a fucking bulb. DIsgusting views, had to cut it at ‘when people don’t make the effort to integrate’.

But that’s not a Tory/right-wing viewpoint per se, it’s an anti-immigration viewpoint. You have left-wing anti immigration parties gaining traction in Germany right now.

I think there is an element of what he’s saying that is true to be perfectly honest but instead of telling the comminities to stop being racist, the majority of the people speaking non English in town centres are just normal folk doing their shopping and getting on with life, the Tories are pandering to them for votes.
Educate the idiots. These English busybodies haven’t had their benefits cut, they can still (or not) get to the doctors the same as if there wasn’t some foreigners living nearby etc etc.
The problem isn’t foriegn folk in town centres, the problem is attitudes to them.
The robberies are just scumbags no matter where they are from and immigrant criminals (which IS a problem) should be dealt in isolation rather than penalising all immigrants for a few. But unfortunately, we don’t have a system in place to deal with any of it.
It’s a shame that while we are calling a dick for his twattish views, there is a good portion of folk clapping to what he’s saying. We might even be in the minority in the people watching the mainstream news.

Blaming immigrants/foreigners for the UK’s troubles is obviously wrong. As to what he means by ‘integration’ at a guess he probably wants every immigrant to start eating pork pies and going to the pub.

The best way to stop immigration is to make the UK an economic and social backwater which nobody would ever want to move to…in fact looking at how they operate that may have been the Tories plan all along.

They’re not actually anti immigration. They just say any old shit that appeals to peoples lowest emotions. I don’t think they believe in anything

Well, it is an anti-immigration viewpoint, but yeah they’ve resorted to populism.

That is pretty much the definition of right wing, nationalism, anti immigration etc

Well, you can be economically right-wing and pro immigration. The US was founded on that. You can be left-wing and anti-immigration…Germany has history on that front!

National Socialism is NOT left wing socialism btw

i think most of the Tories are so power-desperate that they’ll run on a platform of literally anything if it gains votes. Brexit slide-to-the-right meant they followed suit.

fairly sure most of our recent home secretaries are an exception to this though. they all seem like genuine nazi’s

this is just hyperbole to appease the press.
all that will happen is some people will get moved from the current hotels for a bit and then a) either moved back in with no mention of it, b) moved to different hotels/accommodation owned by Tory cronies with no mention of it in the press and/or c) left to fend for themselves in an increasingly unmanageable rental sector.
I will bet my cock that if ‘the hotels are emptied’ they’ll be refilled on the quiet so that it benefits the sort of wankers who attend ‘The Leader’s Group’ meetings to decide on our futures and which of their mates get which contracts.
