In the news thread

I read somewhere that this has all started because flags were put up to celebrate the anniversary of VJ day in some council. When the council took them down days after the anniversary, some You Tube chancer too the opportunity to get clicks to make out the council hated English but loved migrants - couple of weeks later here we are, people spray painting George crosses on mini roundabouts

All done with the help of good old British weapons and technology no doubt. Fuck flying the union jack and fuck mindless patriotism. I’m not proud

I was just talking to someone saying how I had to walk through town last night and it was mad (forgot it was a bank holiday weekend with people out boozing). They said yeah ā€˜it’s also awful at the moment with all the patriots out waving flags’. So it sounds like it’s a problem here that I’ve been oblivious too.

I can’t really see it being much more than a fad unlike voting for Reform unfortunately as they are going be the next government.

It’s not even patriotic in my view, its not like there’s any reason behind it other than anti immigration, which you can argue about, fine, but I don’t think being anti immigration is the same as being patriotic

Not explained very well but you get the idea

I was just repeating their words about it. So I guess people are talking about it like that. I agree it’s all born out of anti immigration too.

If local councils try to stop it, it just feeds into their narrative that they’re/the government is anti English and pro Muslim. Which will convert more people to Reform unfortunately.

I listened to this the other day and the parallels shocked me. we just have not moved on.

the thing that really stood out to me was the backing for Powell from unions and members.

what you don’t have today are the politicians and papers calling out the evil. some quotes from Ted Heath that you’d never hear today from a tory. same from the Times

Yeah I wasn’t saying those were your words

People do feel their culture is under threat I think. But culture isn’t static. It changes over time. But then again those at the bottom (for want of a better word).are at the sharp end of immigration policy. Guardian readers generally aren’t. It’s messy and confusing. I live in a mainly non white British area andthere’s fuck all pubs here. Well a couple. But even that might change as more young students, hipster types seem to be moving in as they’re priced out of trendier areas. Dunno where I’m going with this really. I’m trying not to dismiss it all as just racist idiots, though some are it’s probably a bit more complex than that. Basically people know they’re being shat on, which they have in many ways but from above

Yeah there are many complex issues in all of this and people feel like they’re being ignored. Trying to silence real concerns about real issues that people are facing will only back fire on the government.
Sleipnirā€˜s post being hidden because (I’m assuming) they used the word Palestine in it is scary. As pointed we’ve never seen posts being censored like that before on here.

That would have been someone on the forum…I can flag your post for example :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh really? So I can flag any Andy Anderson footage being posted? Good to know.

Massively complex issues and I’m on holiday so can’t really reply. But in a nutshell I feel like this is engineered to keep the non-wealthy busy whilst the wealthy hoover up more wealth.

back to chilling in the sun

If someone (anyone can) flag a post it gets hidden until someone (a mod) approves or disapproves it. I’ve never censored anything on here afaik

I thought it was the google gods not you (or whoever powers the forum). As I remember the over use of the C word got the forum flagged in the past to the powers that be.

Yes I was surprised it got flagged but it’s visible again now. What I was trying to say, I think, is that flags never used to be such a thing in the UK as in the US, except in Northern Ireland where Union Jacks and Irish tricolours and murals tell you what sort of area you’re entering. And it could end up like that over here.Just waiting for the first Tommy Robinson mural to appear.

, I flagged the other post because of fucking Ulster references and I don’t want to talk about fucking flags on here - I really don’t want to be here with Brexit not to be honest. Had enough

And a second post flagged!
Does a moderator want to take a quick look and let me know if I need to change or delete anything?

we shouldn’t be unnecessarily flagging peoples posts. If someone has a dodgy view, it doesn’t need being swept under the rug, it needs to be out there to see, outed and free to contest. Nothing in that previous Sleipnir post was crazy, just parroting an opinion and if someone wants to question it then question it as a conversation or debate. Lets not be hiding stuff because it rocks the echo chamber lets chat and learn. If we had really extreme views on this subject then that’s different, we have mods that can ban wronguns.

Flagging posts is a bit over the top I think man, we’re all skaters primarily, on paper anyway, you can just ignore posts you don’t like or even just say get to f-ck or whatever
