We’re heading down that path unfortunately ![]()
Fighting on the front lawn is so white trash and on point for the MAGA brand. He just needs to be sat out with a bud on a couch and an old fridge somewhere in the mix too. Instead of ‘Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!’ they’ll be shouting Trump instead. George Washington will be spinning in his grave. What the fuck is America any more? Idiocracy was right about everything.
I’m hoping Chuck Norris is the hidden end boss.
Should have had a UK v USA soccer match, MAGA and the Patriots together in DC, good time for a nuke to go off!
The Nerve really doing great work here
In a way, Trump is producing better satire than the likes of Armando Iannucci and Chris Morris… he, his cohort and his followers are just not self aware enough to realise it.
This under 16 social media ban seems silly. The country would probably be in a better place if we banned it for over 50’s. Labour completely tone deaf as usual
I think they do get it to a certain degree too. They love trolling the libs. The UFC ring seems like something Stephen Miller or Bannon would come up with for fun.
If it gets a few less kids off TikTok or whatever then I’m all for it, most will find a workaround though you’d think.
That’s the thing, they will def find a workaround and the work arounds will have no guard rails
let them find workaround that’s not the point. if it causes even 50% of parents to stop their kids from being on social media then that’d be a massive win. we have an 8 year old and a 14 year old. both of them have school friends with phones and social media accounts that they’re allowed to be on all day. then we end up with conversations about how they need phones and social media in order to interact and “be cool”. if it’s normal (and legal) to NOT have those things instead of having them then that pressure goes away
this is a good thing. although i massively agree that it’s the older generation that are a problem. realistically the REAL issue here is bots
Be interesting to see how it plays out. It’s easy to be too simplistic. We have controls and manage her phone usage so if our 12yo daughter wanted to use a workaround then we would need to be complicit. Right now I don’t see anything she does with her phone is really harmful and in fact beneficial in many ways. I wouldn’t see her isolated if all her friends were still on there.
It’s going to be a massive headache for the current crop of youngsters and their parents but I guess it’s to normalise it for future generations than the ones used to it already now. Our grandkids, kids will think it’s normal not to have it until they are 16. Like kids now think seatbelts in cars or no smoking inside has always been a thing and very normal.
yeah this basically. bear in mind that a lot of social media platforms aren’t meant to be for kids below 16 already and this is just extended that to all of them and making it law
bigger issue as well seems to be that the companies themselves seem pissed off and uncooperative with the mere suggestion that they do something for the good of society
It’s hard not to be cynical about Starmer doing it at this point when he’s literally about to go. Does anyone know what Burnham thinks?
My daughter is nearly 16 and she had an issue last year with some weirdo trying to groom her on Discord but it was caught early thank god. Still had to get police involved and let her only use a brick phone for some time. It’s fine now but I felt completely helpless and lame at the time.
It would help if there was proper regulation in place.
I’m not a historian but I’m pretty sure these kneejerk reactions happen everytime some breakthrough tech is released to the public. Example, motorised vehicles no speed limits/licenses vs speed limits and licences. Or, alcohol, tabacco…
It’s only now, around two decades (?) since social media first started that we have scientific proof that it’s bad for society. There’s a ton of money though and these platforms are rich so governments are kind of screwed trying to get rid of them.
Not sure it’s just the kids using it that is the problem. Everywhere I go where there are parents with young kids, the parents (including me sometimes) are glued to their phone while the kids are trying to engage with them and eventually just give up. It’s so depressing. Gonna be some serious self esteem issues when there’s a whole generation who feel like they can’t compete with a device for their parents attention.
